Ironman Tournament, Round 3

Here are the pairings for the final round of the tournament. The event runs until December 31st. As always, the player on the left has gold in games 1, 3, 5, 7. Adanac – chessandgo Nombril - browni3141 woh – Mistre Thiagor – Harren Dolus – ginrunner ocmiente – Tellmarch Braveheart – Jacka Note: There were a couple of requests to modify the pairings of the consolation rounds. The Open Division players agreed but, unfortunately, (due to my mistake) we won't be able to do so in the Under-2200 division. I'll update the website with the new pairings in the next few days.

The final round has been extended to January 14th to give players a chance to finish their matches. However, you may not overlap a World Championship game: Don't begin a game if there is any WC game in progress or within 1 hour of the starting time of any WC game. If your opponent has disappeared from the Arimaa community and is not responding to your messages, please let me know as soon as possible. Players that fail to complete their games will lose by forfeit and lose part of their deposit, as per the tournament rules.

It looks like two of the pairs will not finish. I also thank your for the tournament. I had a lot of fun and got to play some strong players (like chessandgo! )

| This is sad, but I must say again how impressed I am that the earlier rounds kept on schedule without use of the official scheduler. Kudos to the players for staying motivated and cooperating about finding times!

Thanks browni3141 for pointing out an error in the Wiki. I've fixed the browni-Nombril score to 4-2. If anyone else finds a mistake, please let me know. The tournament is now over and I'll have to award victories to Dolus and ocmiente by forfeit because their opponents have not completed their matches. The prizes & deposit refunds will be paid out later this week. If anyone has any feedback for the tournament, please post it here. I won't be a running a tournament in 2013 but we could have another in 2014 if there's enough demand. My own thoughts are: (1) it's a bit laborious to run this tournament because many of the games are non-event when they're played and then I have to manually change them to event games one by one (2) several players enjoyed the matches and liked have another event throughout the year but (3) by the third round, a lot of players started to lose interest, especially in the consolation section. In the future I would make the following changes: - It's far too difficult to have multiple registration pages and to hope for even numbers of players in each one, so next time I'll have one page for the whole tournament and then split people up by top 8, next top 8, etc. It was an administrative nightmare the way I did it this year. - There shouldn't be a 3rd round consolation, since that was the point at which many people lost interest. But maybe there could be an opt-in for the final round for players that want a pre-WC training match.

I liked it a lot! Thanks for organising this event, Adanac. I can imagine playing two rounds of up to 7 consolation games is not that much fun. Would be good to change that in the future. I also agree with your first suggested change.
