Crowdfunding

So there's a new model for funding creative projects, and the site of choice of those in the know is RocketHub. The fine folks over there explain the concept better than I:

There are many more creative people in the world than there are wealthy patrons of creativity. Most Creatives lack the financial independence to fund their own creative endeavors, and finding a willing producer can be a challenge. How many people do you know who are ready, willing and able to contribute $50,000 to back a creative project? Probably not so many... But how many people do you know who could contribute $10, $50 or $100 toward the same project? Probably a lot more - especially if rewards are offered in exchange for contributions. That is the power of the crowd. All the financial backing Creatives could ever need is already available to them, if they know how to leverage it.

They have people trying to fund albums, photoshoots, cabaret and musical theater, classic cars, launch parties, movie and documentary releases, and of course there is my own project - to fund sample copies of my newly published perfect information boardgame, Penguin Soccer, to send to reviewers and award panels.

As well as letting everybody know about my project, I am also genuinely fascinated to hear any thoughts that the programmer / developer types here might have on harnessing the crowd in their areas of interest.  And it seems to me that RocketHub is an avenue to explore for putting together a print run of a POD book (Fritz, C&G . . .)

Hope you'll take a look.

Thanks for letting us know about this. What a neat concept. Looks like they recently launched the site. I hope it gets popular. Maybe I should try using this next year to raise funds for the championship tournaments.

So, a few days back, Fritz and I were chatting about what makes a project "creative", and whether AI design falls into that category.  Sounds like the folks at RocketHub were listening in based on their recent blog posting.
