Hello (and "I hope I'm not in trouble")

Hello! I found Arimaa on the back of the XKCD strip and have blogged about it here: http://adjectivemarcus.livejournal.com/498038.html. I'm not great at understanding the intricacies of licenses, so please let me know if I need to take out the summary of the rules, or should take down the pdf of the pieces I made. Very much enjoying playing Arimaa so far! Cheers.

Welcome to Arimaa. Nice blog and nice piece set! Your writing is excellent throughout, but I especially like your concise rules. P.S. You don't say anything in the blog about about that soapstone rabbit riding a soapstone elephant. Is that your original photo?

Thank you, you're very kind. I'm afraid I did a Google Image search for "elephant bunny" and cribbed it from there, my usual "gaming" icon is a d20 which really didn't feel appropriate. I'll probably change the icon on the post when I get home and can edit the image files on my home pc.

Enjoyed reading your blog entry. Keep us posted on how your game with Holly goes. The summary of the rules is really nice. I like how you avoided words like orthogonal and adjacent. The summary of the rules falls under the personal and educational use (section 1). I also like the paper cutouts you made for the pieces. Can I make the pdf available in the 'Downloads' section of the Arimaa site. Recently I wrote up the Arimaa rules using the theme of sumo wrestling. The rules are longer, but seem more intuitive that way. http://boardgamegeek.com/boardgame/4616/arimaa Also I've posted some rules that we use at home to make the game go faster or add a little luck. You might want to try these variations with Holly. http://arimaa.com/arimaa/learn/homeRules.pdf

Oh wow, if you want to then please go ahead and do that with the pdf! I read the Sumo thing but I think I got tripped up a bit on the cross-cultural thing. If I was going to mythologise Arimaa I'd use African legends, as Camels and Elephants don't feel very Sumo, to me anyway! I'll try the cats and rabbits variant for our first game, that's a useful pared down version. (c:

Like one of the comments in the blog I also think Arimaa needs an Android app.
