Adjourn feature

Games which are lost on time due to disconnection are a strong impetus to have an adjourn feature, because the "unrate game" feature has been abused and is in any case unsatisfying. Now, however, we have an even stronger impetus for allowing adjourned games. Game 37175 http://arimaa.com/arimaa/gameroom/comments.cgi?gid=37175 between seanick and HBobbletoff couldn't be played to its natural conclusion because seanick had to go to work. What a shame given that the position was still unclear after 94 moves. Yet you can't expect people to necessarily budget time for 100 moves in a game that averages only 45. An adjourn feature would have allowed an epic struggle to have a more just ending. Omar, I know you are working on the new interface for now, and I agree that is the highest priority, but I thought I would start this thread as a placeholder for this feature request.

| This should also increase the number of live HvH since we'd have the safety net of an adjourn feature. For example, I normally decline all game offers after 7:30AM because I don't want to be late for work. I have no doubt that I'd have enough time for a 40 or 50 move game but I'd hate to be in the position where I have to leave half-way through an epic struggle. Then after I return from work, I don't want to start a new game right before dinner (my wife hates that ). I'd love to be able to begin a game one day and then adjourn after a specified number of moves (perhaps 50) and continue again the next day. We could also avoid games ending by disconnection by adjourning a position if the opponent hasn't been heard from in several minutes and is obviously disconnected. Then, after the game has been re-continued, it would be nice to be able to reset the clock to the appropriate amount of time.

| One of the reasons I sometimes played "interactive postals" ... the only downside is that the opponent sometimes REALLY takes his time and never gets into trouble. That would be a major downside when playing against Fritzl since he clearly is playing far worse when under pressure ... and a pint when he got all the time he needs to think properly Yes I would like an adjourn feature ... if reserve is reset to the reserve from last move that should be fair enough.

I'd love to see some form of adjourn supported as well.

I also find it annoying when you are playing against a bot that is designed to take its full time to make a move. It would be good if you could also cancel after 2 turns or something without loosing rating.

Actually games are only rated after a certain number of moves as far as I am correct. I believe the number is 5.

I think the cutoff for a game to count is for each side to set up and each side to make a move. Quitting after that will make it a rated game, even though it doesn't show up in the list of recent games unless it is five moves or longer.
