Problem when running out of time

I was playing the bot ladder and had gotten to bot Loc2005P1, but I've played him twice with him and both times I took enough of his good pieces to make him think a while, in fact so long his time reserve ran out and he lost.  Yet it still won't let me advance on to the next bot.  What gives?

Unfortunately, there are two issues:

  * The bot ladder rules require that you win by immobilization or goal, not by timeout.   This exists so that you cannot advance just because a bot got disconnected.

  * Loc2005 has at least one known bug that causes it to timeout.

The only strategy is to try again until you beat it without it timing out.  That sucks, but we've all been through it.   Just keep soldiering on, and you'll be past el Loco soon enough.

Others (Fritzlein?) might be able to say exactly what the situations are that causes Loc to timeout.   I knew once, but have forgotten.   I think maybe (1) capture Loc's phant -- this looks like what happened to you  (2) You have a possible goal next turn and Loc has no pieces within 4 steps of the goal rabbit.   (IIRC Loc only searches moves for pieces within 4 steps of the goal rabbit, because others couldn't block it.  Nothing w/in 4 squares, no moves searched, no move generated.)

Ah, yes one time the elephant was captured and once it was blockaded.  But I did finally manage to beat it without it timing out.  Thanks  Grin
