I think a limit of ca. 7.5 seconds per move is feasible as the ultimate Arimaa time control that demands virtually zero hesitation.

It would interesting to see how a bot could even function at that speed.  If there is a problem with it timing out, then all a player would have to do would be to make any move and wait for it to run out of time.

If it can been proven that a bot could play with 7.5 seconds and not time out, it would make for some very interesting games!

Why couldn't a bot play in that time? Besides network latency I don't see other real problems. I used to test my bot, in local games against itself) at 5 seconds, so I could play a few dozen games that are statistically relevant to test small feature changes.

Well, Clueless2006Blitz has a problem with timing out at 15 seconds, so wasn't sure if the current bots could do it.  It would be neat to just get one bot available for play at 7.5 sec (or 8 sec just to round off).

I tried a game with Bomb2005Lightning and couldn't make my moves in under 8 seconds. If anyone else wants to try, it is now on the bots page. Have fun Smiley

Forgot to mention: I preset its rating to 2000 with 30 RU.

Thanks, Omar. I've played a game and it's doable, but one is advised to set the animation speed to its highest.

Hurray, hurray I just cracked bot Bomb lightning;

I shorted it out; I got it with my lightning rod; I avoided electrocution; I used warp speed (faster than light); I put on my rubber boots.  Grin Grin Grin Grin

Could this time control be added for HH use?

The whole drop-down of available live time controls could use an overhaul and a slimming down like the Bot Ladder recently received.  It's weird that the more popular set of time controls is still labeled "experimental", and there are so many options it is confusing.  If we need so many choices, maybe it could be broken up into three top-level drop-downs.

Yes, the list of time controls needs to be looked at again now that we have much more experience with time controls.

Does anyone have suggestions on what time controls the new list should include and in what order.
