slow in September

In the last few days I have gotten a lot of slow and failed page loads from arimaa.com, even when my connection to the rest of the Internet is fine.  I don't usually have this problem.  Has anyone else felt that September has been worse than August for arimaa.com's speed?

I haven't noticed, but I've around less in September than I was in August.

What do the site stats look like, user-wise?  Has there been an influx due to the z-Man release, perhaps slowing the site?

I had some troubles yesterday. Getting no respons after sending a move and a reload failed. I had to close the window and reenter the game from the gameroom a couple times.

BTW: I was using the v1 client.

There has been a slight uptick in games played, in fact we probably edged up to a new all-time participation record for Auguest, but the percentage increase was small enough that I wasn't expecting it to impact performance much.  In fact, I was hoping the server could handle 5X growth before performance degraded.

Anyway, the September numbers are slightly lower than August so far, and I didn't notice performance troubles even at the August peak.  I was actually thinking the causality my be reversed: somewhat fewer games played because users like me are having trouble.

It'd be nice if someone passed my V2 problems along to Omar btw...

Or simply if they acknowledged my thread unless it's too much to ask of such busy people...

This can happen if several bots are running at the same time; the server load goes way up and response time gets slow.

Interesting.  That could indicate that we are close to capacity, or at least close to capacity for the number of bots running at the same time.  It used to be extremely rare to have six live games going on at the same time, but I have seen that several days in the last week.

Did you provide an API for users to check server load?  I dimly recall such a thing, but maybe that was for the Challenge servers, not the main server.  If the load starts to be a persistent problem, I would recommend against just letting things get slow for everyone.  It would be better to disable the bots that are CPU hogs, leaving fewer features, but having those features still be fast for everyone.

That said, I haven't noticed any slowness recently, even though traffic has recently been as high as it ever has been, perhaps even at a new record level.

If several bots are running and it just so happens to be the bots turn for all of them the load could get really high.

The load monitoring page was on the tournament servers.
