Those are our top-rated humans: Fritzl 799 Adanac 550 robinson 353 << Worldchamp 99of9 493 Ryan_Cable 661 PMertens 971 Mouse 187 Arimanator 1345 blue22 556 OLTI 316 Ron Weasley 127 Omar 766 Naveed 1121 Belbo 895 Thorin 55 bleitner 324 BlackKnight 199 megamau 370 in comparison a few bots: bot_bomb2005_fast 780 bot_bomb2005_blitz 1323 bot_Arimaanator 2165 bot_Arimaazilla 4819 bot_ShallowBlue 6325 I am pretty sure there can be even more interesting datamining ... if I only had a database ... This data was collected manually ...

Based on my database (two weeks out of date?) these are the players who have the most rated games against human opponents: 232 PMertens 214 naveed 200 99of9 195 robinson 171 Fritzlein 118 Belbo 111 omar 110 jdb 91 Ryan_Cable 80 Adanac 67 Arimanator 65 blue22 60 OLTI 57 kamikazeking 52 Paul 43 clauchau 41 megamau I think this may be the most important number to count, because HvH games are the ones that spread strategic knowledge around the community. Haizhi has played 534 rated games, but only 14 against human opponents. Not that there is anything wrong with playing the same bot over and over and over, but it usually doesn't advance the state of the art in the same way it does to play a variety of human opponents.

| and we got proof: Fritzl 799 171 21% Adanac 550 80 15% robinson 353 195 55% 99of9 493 200 41% Ryan_Cable 661 91 14% PMertens 971 232 24% Arimanator 1345 67 5% blue22 556 65 12% OLTI 316 60 19% Omar 766 111 14% Naveed 1121 214 19% Belbo 895 118 13% megamau 370 41 11% Robinson and 99of9 are certainly very focussed on HvH-Games and we know just how good they can play Unfortunately Fritzl and Adanac are also quite good ... even without playing so many humans ... And I just play alot and learn so little .... and putting tables in here is not funny

Based on these statistics I am the worst player there is. Even though I haven't played for several months I am still the top player on number of games and the worst player on H-H games. Most of my games are botched and filled with stupid mistakes and even now I lose against the weakest bots. I am the antithesis of Arimaa's Ideal player.

| On the contrary, you are a strong player and your results show it. My point was about how one can "spread strategic knowledge around the community". As 99of9 has often argued, you can become an accomplished player merely through botbashing. However, all the tricks and traps you learn are known only by you, unless someone else studies your games. But most players don't study other people's games, and even studying a completed game doesn't drive home a lesson like playing. As the saying goes, The burnt hand teaches best. Someone who watches you spring a trap will not learn nearly as much as someone who plays you and is trapped by you. Playing games against people as well as bots is the simplest way to give something back to the community. (Entering a bot in the Computer Championship is also a great gift to the community, but it is beyond me.) Every time you play a different idea against a different person, the base of Arimaa knowledge gets a little wider, and the game gradually becomes deeper for all of us. We are all mentors to each other. This is not to say that you are under any obligation to teach others what you know. There is absolutely nothing wrong with playing for your own amusement and intellectual stimulation. I am quite sure Omar welcomes each individual to play Arimaa in whatever form and style is interesting to him. Your botbashing masterpieces are interesting and elegant in their own right.

| I am a book learner, and I suspect Adanac is as well. I study Arimaa to the extent I know how to study it. Also he and I have both written about Arimaa. You would be amazed how much it can teach you to try to say something coherent about how to play well. When I try to put my Arimaa knowledge into words, I realize how little I know. on Apr 10th, 2006, 11:07am, PMertens wrote: Over half against humans? This is awe-inspiring. Robinson truly deserves his crown. I hereby resolve to bring my total of rated games versus humans over 300 by the end of this year.

| Not that there is a Player of the Year, but PMertens may be leading (not sure as the PotM rules would change the results). So it's all good as long as PMertens doesn't start another job and be too busy to play us ... right? ... right??

I may be least ideal player of all! Only 15% of my games are against muggles. That makes only 19. Eleven so far in the postal tourneys. If you divide by time since I started playing, that's an average of one game every two months. Mostly this is due to browser issues, but also a lack of uninterrupted stretches of time. I am a coward too. If I lose too badly, I'm afraid people won't want to be my friend.

| Well, there are plenty with a worse ratio ... ... but you are clearly one of the more efficient players ! Reaching (nearly) 2000 points in 127 total games is impressive Quote:If I lose too badly, I'm afraid people won't want to be my friend. |

| I'm a coward as well. I always feel like I'm going to lose my next game. I really admire PMertens for utterly disregarding his rating and playing for fun, yet also playing hard to win every game. I wish I could be an intense player without caring so much about losing.

| I have so far fallen into this category for all of you players ranked higher than me. Well that and swynndla beat me too, but keep playing me and one of these days I'll get a win. But for now, enjoy taking my rating points away from me everyone.
