Just curious.. How many female players are there? 5? 6? While I'm not surprised that there are more males, I am surprised at how overwhelmingly they outnumber females.

It depends on whether you count everyone who has ever played a game, or only currently active players, or somewhere in between. In any case the dearth of female players isn't so unusual. That's what it was like when I played chess in high school. I hope nowadays young girls are taking up chess, maybe due to the role model of the Polgar sisters. Also I hope that some day when I play games over the Internet, my opponents won't particularly care about my gender. Maybe if nobody knows or cares about personal details, it's a step towards true equality.

A go resource wiki called sensei's uses the following rule: "At Sensei's Library we usually refer to White as "she" and to Black as "he" if the players are unknown. This simplifies the discussion of diagrams." http://senseis.xmp.net/?PlayerGender I think its nice. Could be an idea for Arimaa.

That is a nice convention, and one I would gladly adopt for the Arimaa Wiki strategy pages, if I ever get around to updating them again. Should "she" be Gold or Silver?

| I think "she" should be Gold.

I´m more a platinum guy myself... But I don´t think Omar would ever agree to changing the game to Platinum vs. Silver because of chromatic issues. Shouldn´t we let a girl chose afterall?? (of course we all know that it will be gold in the end. Although there is this unsolved question about silver being perhaps more valuable then gold in the arimaa context!...)

| Palladium?? That´s preposterous!! I only knew white gold with mundane silver. I bought a rhodium coated string the other day... Perhaps these could be the colors: radioactive, and inert!
