Interesting that silver needs 9 steps to move the gold rabbit onto the trap from this position. 3 of them just to get the rabbit off the back rank. That's a lot more than I expected. This is used in real games to defer the threat to a trapped but not frozen piece.

This solution, and the one to puzzle #2, are more complex than I realized. It's interesting how one, two, and three step moves are necessary to 1) maintain a dominant position while closing in for the win and 2) avoid losing quickly. Thanx! jdb for posting the solutions. I hope you have more puzzles.

I was much surprised too when reading the solutions. I hadn't seen nor suspected many of the winning or highly resisting moves. Thanks jdb for those pieces of objective knowledge about Arimaa.
