Most games can't be won within a 1 minute time reserve. Even 6 seconds per play only gives you 10 more moves to play out. If it was a race to use as little time as possible, the person with the lowest lag time would probably come out on top most of the time.

The instant the game time expires, both players should have their reserve time maximized, and then continue to play at zero seconds per move until the game is decided by time. You posted before I got a chance to retract it. Heheh. You are right, but the reason I chose to ditch the idea is that the rules also allow for a maximum number of turns before the score is used, in which case a time solution is inappropriate.
