move rules...

i purchased the board game and was attempting to teach the rules to my 10 year old son. he asked me a question regarding moves that i was not sure of. do pull moves have to be done as back to back actions? i explained a pull movel: i move my camel to an empty square, then "pull" an opponents piece to the square where my camel was. so, he asks... can i move my camel to the empty square, then move another piece to an empty square and then go back and finish the rest of the "pull". i could not find specific wordage to indicate the actions had to take place back to back Step 1 and 2 but not step 1 and 3, so i said that i would research. i'm guessing the pull must be done as back to back step moves. i guess the same could be said for a push, but in that example it isn't intuitive to do it any other way but as a back to back step move.

Both pushes as well as pulls must be performed in two consecutive steps, but may otherwise happen anywhere in a move as long as there are at least 2 steps left.

Welcome to arimaa Both pull and push must be done in two consecutive steps. (An easy way how to test this rule is to play a game against a bot here and experiment.) (Yes others more complicated questions are hard to answer this way).
