Under 18 Championship

This summer I will try organizing a tournament for under 18 players. I think it will be great if we can attract some young talent through this tournament. Of course verifying age and preventing cheating will be difficult, but over time I think we will learn how to deal with it if it happens. http://arimaa.com/arimaa/u18/2013/ If we get just a few players I should be able to handle it, but if we get more than about 10, I will definitely need help from the community to monitor the games. Also please pitch in and contribute towards the prize fund if you can. I don't want this tournament to hamper anyone else's plans to run other events during the same time frame. I really appreciate and highly encourage the other events being run during the summer; thanks Joel and Greg. It's definitely helping to keep the excitement going and providing more opportunity to build event ratings.

I think this tournament is a great idea and I would have liked it to happen a year ago when I had the chance to play in it. I have some questions about it: Is it legal in the USA to charge kids money to play a game online? What happens if a kid wants to get out of the tournament and wants his money back? I am not sure about the laws in the USA, but maybe you want to write a disclaimer that the kids need to have the consent of a parent or a legal guardian.

Seems like a good idea, but do you worry about getting enough people? I only know one active player that is under 18 (I think). Unfortunately I am 19

| The brain at work. Unfortunately I don't have any moneys online, probably won't be playing.

| I was thinking a parent would be involved, but you're right I need to get that in writing.

| Yeah, it probably won't be very big, but it's a start. If you know of young talent, this provides a good opportunity for you to introduce them to Arimaa and play games to coach them. Helping others win can be as rewarding as winning yourself
