Breaking Common Frames

I am making this basic post to share a few ways to break this common frame pattern along the b-file.

In this position silver to move can perform a pull and replace of the gold horse and will be winning the repetition fight. This is a fairly common way to break a frame, and is probably the most well known one due to chessandgo. Be aware that gold to move can and (depending on the other wing) probably should flip the silver horse to b4. The framed horse is a strong fighting piece for silver.

This position is also threatening to break the frame with four distinct moves, any of which might be best depending on the surrounding position or the variation of the frame:

1. mb4n Hb3n hc3w Cc2n
2. mb4n Hb3n hc3w ed3w
3. mb4n Hb3n ra3e ra4s
4. mb4n Hb3n mb5e Hb4n

If the framed piece is a dog instead 1. does not work anymore, but 2. does. Note however that something like that may be extremely bad in some cases such as the following:

Here it is better to try preparing the phalanx for 3. or advance the a-rabbit for 4.

Finally, when the opponent uses 4-for-2 defenses to try to prevent the frame break indefinitely, one should not be concerned. Just improve your position as much as possible and then make a threat. Sacrificing some material is okay because the value of breaking the frame can be worth more than a horse if it results in an EH attack+h hostage.

These comments are fairly shallow, so feel free to discuss more in depth.
