Title: Re: Mob game Move 19g Post by Hippo on Mar 29th, 2016, 6:56am OK our Rabbit is hanging, our Dog is basketed with f6 capture in near future, our Horse is hostaged, our c3 trap is vacated. I don't think we could do something with the first two issues. Eb5 Rb2, c2 could be an attempt to do something with the remaining two. Silver could reply for example Rb4 ec4 hc5 ... what would counter/delay our unhostaging attempts, but at least we would gain tempo near the c3 trap. Other bot replies? |

Title: Re: Mob game Move 19g Post by half_integer on Mar 29th, 2016, 4:59pm On the face of it I agree. We can't keep silver from taking the dog so to prevent it we need to threaten something larger. That means horse or camel or large positional threat. I assume silver anticipates pushing Ed5:.De5 because of his horse step. The horse did not need to move while the silver elephant is on the 4th rank but would be vulnerable when that rank is empty. I also don't like the look of the number of squares we are prevented from accessing in the e3-g5 area. |

Title: Re: Mob game Move 19g Post by Hippo on Mar 30th, 2016, 3:05am Of course, silver would like his horse near c3 much more than his camel. So I think the only choice is to make threat on the camel (what simultaneously fights for freeing our Horse). |

Title: Re: Mob game Move 19g Post by Hufflepup on Mar 30th, 2016, 5:19pm I agree that we need to threaten the camel. I cant see anything better than 19g: Ec4w Eb4n Rc1n Rb1n |

Title: Re: Mob game Move 19g Post by half_integer on Mar 30th, 2016, 5:29pm Unfortunately the most obvious move, Eb4:Mb5, immediately loses a rabbit for no threat with 19s H:Rc4 E:Rc3x which leaves the dog still vulnerable and the c3 trap now protected for silver. I haven't found a move I actually like yet. Maybe something like M:Cd8 Rcb5 Ec5 with an eye towards pushing the silver rabbit into f6 and then fighting at f7 or g7? |

Hmm, I dont understand what would we achieve by such a move. It looks like undo of some halves of previous moves. I really don't think Md7 is better than Mc7 in this hostage position. We have put Rc5 to allow Eb5. Formation of Ec5 Rb5 Ra5 is really bad when the c6 trap is occupied. And it would slow our future attemts to break the mH hostage. |

Title: Re: Mob game Move 19g Post by half_integer on Apr 3rd, 2016, 8:39am Interest in this discussion seems to have waned, and it is about time to be moving. As much as I would prefer otherwise, practicality suggests we should have a poll with the following choices: - Hippo's move: Eb5 Rb2 Rc2 - Resign (whether due to position or lack of interest doesn't matter) - Discuss further or a different move I don't think it's worth making a poor move just to move; if this is not going to be sustained then no need to drag it out. I _would_ recommend a poll rather than a forum vote, to make sure all participants are aware of the choice being made. |

I'd like to see some more analysis on the camel pull, because if the c5 rabbit is indeed taken, the camel flip looks favorable from a piece distribution standpoint. Since there is a consensus that Gold is behind anyway, a complicating move such as this one is exactly the kind one should be looking for in this position, rather than grind out an almost sure loss. Besides, that rabbit seems to be more a burden than an asset right now. |

Title: Re: Mob game Move 19g Post by half_integer on Apr 3rd, 2016, 6:09pm If you think the camel flip is that bad for silver, though, consider that he can always reply differently, H:Rc4 Mb6 (Df5 or De6) for instance. |

Having the rabbit be pushed back would constitute what I believe to be a gain, because it would allow the elephant to threaten a camel pull from c5. In any case, even if Hippo is right that putting the elephant on b5 would be best, more thought should be given to the other two steps; rabbit to c2 is probably fine, but I'd be wary of advancing yet another rabbit with no clear thought behind it. |

Title: Re: Mob game Move 19g Post by deep_blue on Apr 5th, 2016, 4:04am I think the poll currently looks like that: -- 19g Ec4w Eb4n Rb1n Rc1n -- 19g Ec4w Eb4n Eb5s mb6s -- 19g more discussion I don't feel like the mob should resign yet since the position is not yet THAT bad. Though on the other hand if noone really wants to play on it might be for the better. Also I doubt it would win a poll for some reasons. That though means that I might as well include it. So: -- resign |

Title: Re: Mob game Move 19g Post by half_integer on Apr 5th, 2016, 6:20am If the Mob wants to try the camel pull, thinking we get some advantage from the tactics, then it is fine with me. Here is another reply which doesn't push the rabbit back though: 19s Hb6 M:Rc6 Ec4 How do you feel about that? Does the advanced rabbit outweigh the other features? I suppose the horse pull and replace would be next, but I am a bit uncomfortable with the elephant being semi-blockaded in the west. p.s. we're 6 hours into reserve as I write this. Need to start a poll while we continue the discussion. |
