Well, looks like I'm going to be the whipping boy of the inaugural Arimaa World League, but I'll be a plucky loser.

Only way to improve your game is to play against stronger opposition, no?

Hi Team!

The friendly match is coming up soon and I could use some feedback as to your ability to participate.  There are currently two proposed date ranges; Dec 7 to Dec 20 and Dec 14 to Dec 27.  Please tell me if you can play and what dates you would prefer.
Feel free to invite others to join the Yankees.  We are currently looking for a roster of 3 players, so please play if you can!

I'll play 7-20, but 14-27 comes a bit too close to close to Christmas, where I go out of town to a place where my access to internets is sporadic at best and the quality of internets isn't very good either, poor Sconi and his internets...

No error; that is the window of time in which the game must be scheduled.  At least, that is how it works for the World Championship, and I assume Omar has just duplicated the same scheduler for use by the World League.

Window is offering me choices from 7pm Wednesday to 5pm Monday.  This in no way matches "the week of Dec 14-20."

I believe megajester was not aware of this, has now been informed and is working on a solution.  I prefer playing on weekdays during the day as well.  
In the meantime, try to fill out the scheduler and if you don't like the time it gives you or you just want to, we can reschedule the game with your opponent to whatever time the two of you agree.

I don't know exactly when the games are going to be scheduled, but when they are, you will see them at the bottom of the game room under "Scheduled Games."  Your game will also appear under "My Games."  Both places show the time the game will start.

May have been a loss, but that was the cleanest, most satisfying game of Arimaa I've ever played.  League play can only improve my game, and I look forward to scoring some 3s rather than 1s for the Yanks!

Hi team,

We have a decision to make about how many games to play in the upcoming tournament.  What are your thoughts?  Are you available to play in April?

Try to look for new recruits, as this will allow us to vary who is playing and/or play more games.

Megajester and I feel that we may get more players if we change the Club name to something more people can embrace.  Yankees is very northeast U.S. and often creates strong feelings (whether for or against) in sports fans. Megajester suggested Atlantics as it can easily include many other countries as well as the eastern U.S.  

What does everyone think about changing the name? Suggestions for new names are welcome.

I'm not sure how necessary changing the name really is, after all, I'm one of those southerner types and we still rankle from that War of Northern Aggression, and yet I'm here : () )

(would you believe a couple of my teachers in middle and high schools actually called it that?)


If we do insist on a name change though... how about the Fighting Cod, I think they spawn mostly on the East Coast, from about Maryland/Virginia region up through the Hudson Bay... I might be misremembering though, but even if so, there's something amusing about fighting codfish.

As an actual New Yorker and Yankee fan, I like the name.  Are people really avoiding the team because of the name, or are there just fewer Arimaa.com members in the North / North Eastern USA?

Atlantics is an acceptible alternate name if a name change is necessary.

Very well, I see two votes for keeping the name and one challenge from Fritzlein versus the chance Fritz will be ever so slightly more lenient against us.  So, unless there is further discussion, we will remain the Yankees and hold our heads high as we take on any challenger!

If you change the name, I'll sign up with your team.  I was considering it since the roster seems to have fewer members than the other teams - but I could not bring myself to sign up with the 'Yankees'.  The 'Atlantics' is OK with me.

Nah, just sign up with the Rockies.  You will get more playing time with us, because we have a player who is unusable due to the salary cap (me).   ;D

New discussion shows at least one person will join our team with a name change.  I think that is definitely worth it.  Let's try to reach a consensus by noon on Friday (EST).

I currently have ocmiente and nycavri supporting 'Atlantics' and Sconibulus for 'Fighting Cod'.  
Feel free to post your thoughts even if you are not yet on the team but would join under a new name.

This is the team I would geographically play for if I ever think I can play, which is doubtful, so my opinion should count only a little.  Even though I'm a Red Sox fan, I wouldn't decline to play just becasue of the team name.

Given that, I think Fighting Cod is great!

Oh, regarding availability, I won't be able to play at all reliably until at least the eighth, maybe even a few more days. After that though, I should be about 66% for any given week, increasing to 75-80% once my playoffs are done... stupid unpredictable playoff schedules. *grumble grumble*

Welcome my fellow players to the new team name!  We will henceforth be the Atlantics!  

I hope to see ocmiente sign up with us soon.  Thank you Sconibulus and nycavri for the availability update.  The tournament officially starts on the 12th, but the roster is finalized a week later and the first games won't be until around the 22nd.  Rabbits and all new players who sign up, please let me know when you're available if you can.

As far as availability... I should be free to play one game a week most weeks - but I won't mind missing weeks - whatever works out for the team.
