As of April 2, 2010 the Yankees' name has changed to the "Atlantics".

Results are in from Round 1 of the 2010 Arimaa World League (http://arimaa.com/arimaa/mwiki/index.php/AWL_2010_Round_1)! The Ring of Fire is off to a flying start, with Europa in a close, albeit costly, second. The Atlantics and the Rockies put up a sterling fight with one win and two honourable losses each. The action is only just beginning!

After some substitution irregularities in the Table 1 game in the Rockies v. Europa match, I would like to ask that all players familiarize themselves with the substitution procedure as outlined in the League FAQ (http://arimaa.com/arimaa/mwiki/index.php/League_FAQ) and League Rules (http://arimaa.com/arimaa/mwiki/index.php/League_Rules). Thank you, and all the best in the next round!

Round 2 results (http://arimaa.com/arimaa/mwiki/index.php/AWL_2010_Round_2) now in! Underdogs Atlantics now find themselves top of the pack, however the other dogs are in hot pursuit. Who will seize their crown, the Rockies or the Ringers? Or will sleeping giants Europa lick their wounds to become a challenger again? Stay tuned for Round 3!

BEGINNING OF ROUND 3 UPDATE

Round 2 saw the Atlantics trounce Europa and shoot to the top of the League. The question now is, what lessons will the Rockies draw from that match and how much are they willing to spend to ensure victory?

Meanwhile the Ring of Fire and Europa are pretty much even on the budget front, but it's more urgent for Europa to try and get back in the game. The captains have a delicate task ahead of them. Spend too high and they'll be left with small change for the final rounds, spend too low and they risk giving the match to the other team on a plate.

More commentary at the Round 3 wiki page (http://arimaa.com/arimaa/mwiki/index.php/AWL_2010_Round_3). If you would like to contribute feel free to message me.

ROUND 3 ROSTERS ANNOUNCEMENT UPDATE

At Table 1 of Rockies v. Atlantics, League veteran omar faces Rockies captain ChrisB, who will be hoping for an impressive debut. Over at the other match, Harren will have his first taste of the League leading the Ringers against an all-fresh Europa squad. Other newcomers are novacat for the Atlantics, starjots for the Rockies, and Korhil for the Ring of Fire.

Only Tuks is a clear favourite to win his game for Europa, although even that table may well throw up a surprise or two. Everywhere else there's every indication it'll be a closely-fought round. Gripping stuff!

ROUND 3 RESULTS, BEGINNING OF ROUND 4

The Atlantics do it again! Infuriatingly for the other teams, at the halfway point of the League the supposed outsiders are out in front with 21 points, and have spent less of their budget than anyone else to pull it off.

Europa, smarting from the League's first forfeit, fought hard and managed to take home a win, but with only 14 points they now need a miracle to get back in contention.

Round 4 will decide a lot of things. The Ring of Fire are definitely one to watch. Either the Rockies or Europa, the favourites at the beginning, are likely to be out of the running for first place. But the result of that match will be academic if the Atlantics wipe the floor. Again.

ROUND 4 ROSTERS ANNOUNCEMENT UPDATE

In contrast to previous rounds, all tables this time around are quite unevenly matched. The battles between favourites and underdogs will decide whether the Atlantics are set to lift the trophy, or if the other contenders are still in with a chance.

ROUND 4 (http://arimaa.com/arimaa/mwiki/index.php/AWL_2010_Round_4) RESULTS, BEGINNING OF ROUND 5 (http://arimaa.com/arimaa/mwiki/index.php/AWL_2010_Round_5)

It's official: The Atlantics are still mortal! The Ring of Fire put two past the opposition to be only one point short of first place. Meanwhile the Rockies won their match against Europa to be in serious contention, although Europa are still in with a chance.

League fever is gripping the teams! Especially Europa, who seem more fired than ever to prove the nay-sayers wrong. They still have a chance of taking the tournament, but to have a reasonable chance of doing so it seems they need to win all three games against the Atlantics. Meanwhile we have a clash of the titans on our hands with the Ring of Fire vs. Rockies. So, expect some big names to come out and play some cutthroat games this round!

ROUND 5 ROSTERS ANNOUNCEMENT UPDATE

In this penultimate round the Atlantics have fielded their most experienced hands, and Europa's PMertens will debut alongside two other seasoned comrades, making for a lethal lineup. Meanwhile the Rockies are top-heavy in their match against the Ring of Fire, who are more evenly spread.

Europa are hoping for a spectacular comeback, while the Ring of Fire and the Rockies are neck-and-neck. And the Atlantics may well have a surprise or two up their sleeve.

Anything can still happen, everything's possible. Blink and you'll miss something!

ROUND 5 RESULTS, BEGINNING OF ROUND 6

It was a rollercoaster round with excellent spectator turnout.

Europa did not manage their 3-0 sweep they were hoping for, and the disqualification of one of the Rockies players sadly leaves them too with a forfeit. However the Ring of Fire have finally ended the Atlantics' long reign and go into the last round the favourites to win the tournament.

Because it is the last round, all teams regardless of their position in the standings will be using up their accrued budget surpluses for a worthy finale. Don't miss this one!

Round 6 rosters (http://arimaa.com/arimaa/mwiki/index.php/AWL_2010_Round_6) have now been announced. Some confirmation emails were sent in error; if you're name's not on the roster, you've got nothing to worry about. My apologies.

If, however, you are playing, please check your inbox by clicking on the "you have X messages" link at the top.

We are hoping to be able to have another League after this one. After messaging the captains, there are concerns about availability over the summer months. Please could all League members fill in this really short survey (http://www.surveygizmo.com/s3/323455/81f8d65c88e6). It'll be a great help. Thanks!

Time for MOAR!

That's right, the 2010 Arimaa World League Sequel (http://arimaa.com/arimaa/mwiki/index.php/2010_Arimaa_World_League) is underway!

Thanks chessandgo for stepping in temporarily as Europa captain. Now everything's in place for Round 1 to really get under way. The round started this Monday, so captains need to start messaging their players to determine availability.

Hopefully this will be a worthy successor to the first League. Everybody's got a clean slate, so get behind your team and plan for victory!

Note: Seeing as it seems some were unaware of the new League, everybody has a chance now to either change their club or point out any problems with the rules. This window will close at 00:00 GMT Sunday morning, after that point everything will be finalized.

ROUND 1 ROSTERS ANNOUNCEMENT UPDATE (http://arimaa.com/arimaa/mwiki/index.php/AWLS_2010_Round_1)

So far this promises to be a worthy successor to the first League.

The Euro Army will fire their first shots across the bows of the stalwart Atlantics. Meanwhile a David-and-Goliath battle awaits the Ring of Fire as the Rockies field a sterling squad. But the story of the League has always been one of twists and turns, setbacks and comebacks...

Come into the chatroom and let's fire up the League spirit!

AWLS 2010 ROUND 1 POST-MATCH ANALYSIS (http://arimaa.com/arimaa/mwiki/index.php/AWLS_2010_Round_1)

Even a well-earned victory from veteran omar couldn't save the Atlantics, as Europa steamed into first place getting an impressive bang for their buck. (Shurely "euro"? Ed)

Meanwhile the Rockies got the result they were surely hoping for from their hefty spend, although the Ringers put up a good fight. Just wait until *they* get fired up.

Next up, Round 2!

AWLS 2010 ROUND 2 FIRST IMPRESSIONS (http://arimaa.com/arimaa/mwiki/index.php/AWLS_2010_Round_2)

Europa is reborn! Perhaps this time they will reach their full potential. But they are still neck-and-neck with the Rockies, who also have had unprecedented success. It will be another round before these two clash, so let's see if this round the Ring of Fire can put a dent in Europa's progress, and if the Atlantics can defeat the Rockies yet again in an all-American derby.

Round 2 was largely a success, with the Ring of Fire making a comeback and the Rockies moving into first place.

However one of the matches, Sconibulus v. Ice, could not be played due to server issues. This game has been  rescheduled in the gameroom for this weekend.

After that I'll be posting a proper update!

ROUND 2 POST-MATCH ANALYSIS (http://arimaa.com/arimaa/mwiki/index.php/AWLS_2010_Round_2)

Wow! Atlantics trounce the Rockies 3-0 to steam ahead to first place! The Rockies'll be smarting from that. After 2 rounds they'll have a chance to get their own back, but for now they're just going to have to bide their time.

The Ring of Fire seems to be getting back into the swing of things with a very respectable 2-1 victory against Europa. The two are now neck-and-neck and would be first and second were it not for the Atlantics' shock victory.

Next week the Round 3 games will be starting up, so stay tuned to see how champions Ring of Fire fare against the tigerish Atlantics, and if the Rockies can lick their wounds to get back in contention against the European pretenders.

ROUND 3 REVIEW (http://arimaa.com/arimaa/mwiki/index.php/AWLS_2010_Round_3), & ROUND 4 PREVIEW (http://arimaa.com/arimaa/mwiki/index.php/AWLS_2010_Round_4)

Both the Atlantics and the Rockies took a drubbing, while Europa and the Ring of Fire were catapulted up the leader board, both with a hefty budget surplus.

This round the Rockies are clearly trying to claw back their budget, and have still managed to produce worthy opponents for their opposite numbers over at the Atlantics. So will the Atlantics manage a fourth straight victory against their West Coast rivals?

Meanwhile in the other match... Wow! Chessandgo makes a rare appearance as Europa tries to secure their lead. However the other tables see the Ringers with a distinct advantage. In any case it promises to be a blistering encounter.

ROUND 4 (http://arimaa.com/arimaa/mwiki/index.php/AWLS_2010_Round_4) POST-MATCH ANALYSIS

So there's the answer to that question: Yes, the Atlantics did manage a fourth straight victory against the Rockies. And it was merciless. The Rockies were on a tight budget this round, and try as they might they were outmaneuvered by their (underrated) opposite numbers.

In the Ring of Fire v. Europa match chessandgo produced another breathtakingly surreal performance against embattled Adanac. However the victory scored by the maverick and his rabbits was not enough to save Europa. Experience won the day on the other tables to give the Ringers an overall victory.

So now the Ring of Fire goes into Round 5 in first place with the Atlantics in dubious second. Europa trails the lead by 3 points and have their work cut out for them, as they try to extract more points from the American teams than the Ringers will in the final two rounds. The unfortunate Rockies on the other hand have only honor to play for now.
