Greetings to all,

Last year we had the first ever Arimaa World League. You could say it was like the maiden flight of a aircraft prototype. We worked hard on her design, and when we fired her up she took off and soared. I'm think we're agreed that last year's League was a great success.

However I'm sure that seeing how she flies has given us all a better idea of what works and what we could do better next time. It's time to get her back into the hangar and refine her design.

Of course, the World Championship is the community's main concern at the moment. However I think it would be good to make a start by defining everybody's role for the planning stage. Of course, everybody's suggestions are more than welcome (click here (http://arimaa.com/arimaa/forum/cgi/YaBB.cgi?board=2011awl2;action=display;num=1294299711) to share your thoughts). However we need a core focus group who are conversant with all the ins and outs to make sound decisions. Also we need to divvy up the various tasks.

Please have a look at this page (http://arimaa.com/arimaa/mwiki/index.php/Event_Roles) to familiarize yourselves with exactly what each role entails.

Omar has approved me as the Organizer. If you would like to serve in any or all of the following roles please reply to this thread:

- Legislator (there will be a Legislators' Committee)
- Director
- Coordinator
- Recorder (for updating the wiki etc.)
- Promoter
- Announcer (meaning commentators)

I would like to make some appointments as follows. I have not emailed or forum-messaged anybody, so the list below represents a list of invitations. Would everybody on the list signal whether or not they will accept these roles.

Legislators Committee Although everybody can and should make suggestions, this committee will finalize and amend league rules. I have selected one member from each of the teams, and then myself for an odd number. If anybody would like to put their name forward please feel free.

Director Referee
Ned Bent, because he did such a grand job last year.

Coordinator Practical administrative duties
megajester (unless somebody else is willing?)

Recorder Updates the wiki etc.
Any volunteers?

Promoter Does what it says on the tin
Anybody feel like doing a bit of marketing for us?

Announcer Commentators, both in the chatroom and on Teamspeak
Any volunteers?

I should be finished appearing in movie houses by the time things begin. I may not be following things as closely as in the past, so please seek me out aggressively if I need to make a ruling.

Thanks Ron,

I've got confirmation from Fritzlein, but chessandgo has declined so we need a volunteer from Europa. I have yet to hear from aaaa and Eltripas.

It's really not a difficult job. All you have to do is make sure the proposed rules seem reasonable and rubber stamp them.

I don't know what being a legislator would entail exactly, but, as people know, I hardly ever hesitate to chime in my thoughts on tournament structure and rules. So, if that's pretty much sufficient, I wouldn't mind the role.

So that's just Eltripas who hasn't confirmed and I'm going to try and find somebody from Europa. Then I'm going to redraft the rules based on the suggestions thread for the committee's approval or any further suggestions from the community.

The appointments were made largely ad-hoc, based on who was available when I asked them. From now on it would really be up to the teams to select their representative.
