Title: Chatting bots ? Post by chessandgo on Apr 26th, 2006, 11:51pm Hi ! I've not seen anything in the bot package provided to download telling about how a bot can send chat messages, apart from the beginning message. Is a bot supposed not to chat ?? Or have I overlooked something ? In the first case, I would be really sad, as my anti-human strategy relies heavily on deconcentrating the opponent by a constant and stupid kibbitz. Please, rescue me ! Jean |

Title: Re: Chatting bots ? Post by RonWeasley on Apr 27th, 2006, 4:40pm Turing test. Named for Alan Turing, a Ravenclaw who graduated Hogwarts in 1931. He was a wizard with numbers. He was part of the team that cured the number 13 of being unlucky. |

Title: Re: Chatting bots ? Post by chessandgo on Apr 27th, 2006, 6:51pm lol ;D Hehe I know Alan Turing, and I think the "unlucking" of 13 is not his major achievement ... And if you doubt that my Melissa is turing complete, Arimanator ... she'll be very disappointed ... and will keep saying bad things to you ... if she ever earns the right to speak ... :( |

Title: Re: Chatting bots ? Post by IdahoEv on Apr 27th, 2006, 7:40pm I was thinking about including an implementation of ELIZA in my bot. :-) |

Title: Re: Chatting bots ? Post by NIC1138 on Apr 28th, 2006, 12:51am I want to make a bot in the future, and apart from sending distractive messages and passing the Turing test (yes, I also tought that all too! :D ) I would like to use the chat to send parameters to the bot!!! I could tell the bot when it/he/she makes a good move, for example... |

Title: Re: Chatting bots ? Post by chessandgo on Apr 28th, 2006, 8:41pm Come on, I can't believe there's no one there who knows the answer [of the quesition : can a bot chat ?]. Even though I fear it's a negative one ... So ? No one wants to enlight a poor bot designer ???? |

Title: Re: Chatting bots ? Post by IdahoEv on Apr 29th, 2006, 6:14am It should be the same as for writing a gameroom client, yes? I am not that far along so I can't tell you where to look, but since others are working on gameroom clients, the code for the chat part of the interface must be in the examples somewhere. |

Title: Re: Chatting bots ? Post by clauchau on Apr 29th, 2006, 6:36am By the way I wish bots would react to the way their opponent play, if not by talking, then at least by playing in an adapted way. Look at the recent games where humans play only 3 steps per move through the whole game. If they were facing human opponents, they would have got some reaction, some attempts to account for that new style and to show its weakness. Instead of that, the bots keep modelling their opponent the same way. |
