Since Gnobby-2006 didn't place, and I don't want to bore everyone, I've decided to put up my development version as Gnobot 2007. It's not as good as 2006, but it should be quite different, and hopefully will add variety to the Arimaa bots.

The search code is basically identical, but the eval is totally new. I am about 1/4 of the way through implementing a top-down eval, similar to the one I outlined in the mindmap. But since I'm busy with other things, I won't have time to write the other 3/4 this year.

(You'll be pleased to know, the 1/4 does include material evaluation... so it won't play entirely mindlessly!)

Excellent! Even if Gnobot 2007 doesn't place, it will be good to have more variety, both within the tournament and for the bot ladder. It looks like Blackknight is experimenting with Loc as well. The tournament could be far less boring than I had feared.

Will the new eval be completed for 2008? With several new bots in the gameroom recently, Gnobot might have to compete for one of the eight slots in the 2008 Computer Championship. Although I guess Occam was just filler in 2007, and only one of Faerie/Zombie needs to play, so that accommodates two new bots even if everyone from last year plays again.

Far from complete I'm afraid. I think I've only worked on it for about an hour since last year!
