Title: Question about Blitz/Fast/CC/P1/P2... Post by hyperpape on Mar 15th, 2012, 3:47pm I have a question about the various bots on the server. Is there any generalization about how they relate to each other? That is, are fooBotBlitz and fooBotFast typically identical except for the time management or do they differ in other ways? Same question for CC bots. And has anyone ever tested of any of the P1/P2 bots against their various counterparts, ignoring the time issues? None of this is really important, I've just been curious about the objective quality of play of various bots. In other games I'm familiar with, bots will gain relative strength against humans as the time decreases, while still suffering significant absolute declines in play quality. I'm curious if the same applies to Arimaa. |

Title: Re: Question about Blitz/Fast/CC/P1/P2... Post by tize on Mar 16th, 2012, 2:25am While fooBotXXXXX all are the same binary, they can handle the search differently. In marwin for instance the P1 versions will just generate marwins move and use static goal/capture evaluation to see whats happening at opponents next move. The P2 version will also enable the goal extension, so it should be able to see win/loss in two. And the blitz/fast/cc versions will also enable the quiescence search which should improve the play in capture tactical positions. |

The fact that the screening bots at 2/min move are way underperforming the ratings they amassed at 15/sec move suggests that blitz bots are really 200 Elo stronger against humans, if not more. I'll bet my estimate of 150 comes from the days when there was a lot of bot-bashing by rote, which would tend to underrate blitz bots. A new bot for which you have no formula might do better at high speed than a bot you have mastered. |
