Title: Man vs machine Poker Post by chessandgo on Jul 12th, 2008, 12:55pm Hi there, contrary to last year, the limit holdem poker bot of Univ. Alberta defeated the human team: http://www.today.com/view/poker-news-poker-items/polaris-2-0-defeats-stoxpoker-team-in-man-machine-poker-championship-rematch/id-2338564/ The human players' quality was arguably less apparently, but anyway the list of humanity stongholds is still shortening around arimaa :) Jean |

Title: Re: Man vs machine Poker Post by Fritzlein on Jul 12th, 2008, 1:15pm Very interesting. A narrow victory for the machines, but last year's victory for the humans was narrow as well. There may be more humans who can beat the best computer at Arimaa than can beat the best computer at heads-up limit hold-em. Can no-limit ring games be far behind? As interesting as these special matches are, I hope they find a way for computers to enter the World Series of Poker as regular competitors. |

Title: Re: Man vs machine Poker Post by omar on Jul 22nd, 2008, 7:47am Computers probably won't be considered better than humans until they do better at tables with multiple players and no-limits. However, that might turn out to be a more difficult problem to solve. |
