Title: Atari Go Post by Belteshazzar on Apr 22nd, 2015, 5:50pm Does anyone have an opinion on whether it's good to learn "Atari Go" aka "Capture Go" before regular Go? "Atari Go" is a version of Go in which the first player to capture, or the first to capture X number of stones, wins. Apparently some have criticized it for overemphasizing captures and thus teaching bad habits. I feel like I developed bad habits with Arimaa early on, and I don't want to repeat that with Go. |

Title: Re: Atari Go Post by Belteshazzar on May 1st, 2015, 1:32pm I've pretty much decided that it's best just to learn regular Go. But is it best to start with a 9*9 board, 13*13, or 19*19? Also, can anyone recommend a program to play against? |

Title: Re: Atari Go Post by PerkofBR on May 1st, 2015, 2:37pm Why dont you try Many Faces of Go? I also think that 9x9 is better for learning, but the 13x13 is more fun. Although I'm no reference in Go play. I also got recommended by lightvector to KGS, which is a nice server for playing Go online, and with a nice community. Cheers, PerkofBR |
