Title: European Go master beaten by AlphaGo Bot

Seems that AI made a great step, read this:

Official sight is at http://www.deepmind.com/alpha-go.html.
This was a 5-0 result played with even (no handicap) games.
They are planning to play the top go player in the world in March.

Until this result came out the common prediction was still about 10 years until go programs made it to the pro level. I felt like the optimist thinking it would be half that time. Now I'm feeling quite a bit of deja vu from the Arimaa experience last year. ;)

"And it's over! AlphaGo has won the match, extending its streak to 3-0 over the legendary player.... Match four and five will still take place as scheduled, on Sunday and Tuesday....

"Sedol ... commented on his performance through a translator, saying that looking back, he could not have won the first match because he underestimated the capabilities of AlphaGo. In the second match he noted missed opportunities, and finally that 'I was unable to overcome the amount of pressure I was experiencing' in today's third game."

Now that the match result has been decided I hope Lee Sedol can win one of the two remaining games.  I don't claim to understand any of the deep strategies, but I know he has shown himself to be a valiant competitor.

Amazing achievement. I didn't think that Go would fall for at least another 10 years. It's a bit scary how fast AI is advancing. If you haven't already read this article, I highly recommend it:

And here is the Google TechTalk from 2007 that turned Google on to deep neural networks which lead to this achievement:

So I happened to recall today this xkcd (https://xkcd.com/1002/) rating the difficulty of various games for computers. It's interesting of the four games in the "computers still lose to top humans" category two of them have fallen and it's the two that were ranked as harder for computers at the time.
