Title: Hello out there Post by Martin1974 on May 28th, 2013, 3:53pm Hi everyone, just stumbled into this game some days ago. Looks really good. A fascinating thought that tactics and strategies are only max. 10 years old and developing is going on. In chess and go no amateur can hope to come even close to the state of the art because of hundreds or even thousends of years of research by pros. Just made a makeshift set of arimaa pieces with cartoon animal stickers on the backside of xiangqi pieces. It's a sheme to trick my girlfriend into playing. She doesn't like chess etc. because of the warlike aggressivness but surely can't resist cute cartoon elephants and such ;) Only problem is that I couldn't find any rabbit stickers therefor sheeps have to do. ;-) |

Title: Re: Hello out there Post by Fritzlein on May 28th, 2013, 4:19pm Welcome, Martin! If you are looking for scope for creativity in an abstract strategy game, you've come to the right place. We still don't know basic things such as when it is bad to advance rabbits in the opening and when it is good. This is not due to our collectively idiocy; we have uncovered a great deal of depth, and ratings span eight class intervals. It's just that Arimaa itself is so rich and varied it keeps having more to offer no matter how much we learn about it. If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to ask! |

Hey, thanks for the purchase! I hope you don't find it too out of date, given how quickly Arimaa theory is moving forward. And if you stick with Arimaa for any length of time, you can't go wrong with Jean's Arimaa Strategies and Tactics. |

Heh, you can tell I'm not a graphic designer, but I thought the concept was nifty. |
