I can not played against arimaanator. though I played against it before. it is saying I have to win two game against arimaazon in a series?. i already have won two games against arimaazon.

The way it checks to see if you can play the selected bot is as follows:

if your rating is not 200 points above the selected bot
___ for each lower ranked bot check
______ if you have less than a 60% winning record against the bot
_________if you lost one or more of the last two games against the bot
___________ then you cannot play selected bot until you win against this bot

Since even the unrated games are counted, the game which you lost on time against Arimaazon is what's causing this message. So if you win one more against Arimaazon you should be able to play Arimaanator.

Ok thankx. But I felt it is complicated. I thought one should be allowed to play against a bot by achiving some one time qualification. Otherwise one will not be able to experiment with the bots to learn arimaa better, and all the games even the unrated ones should also be taken very seriously. There is no adjourned feature and a full arimaa game takes more than an hour.

Thanks for the feedback on this Pallab. I think you are right that players may be expecting that after winning two games against a bot they have passed that level even if they lose to the bot later. I'm considering changing it to be as expected by the players.

Omar, I would go with your intuition that simpler might be better. Since it is potentially confusing to new players if they qualify to play a bot but later lose that qualification, the more obvious rule might avert some frustration.

Besides, the way it is now, after a player beats a bot twice in a row, they have a disincentive to ever play that bot again, because a loss might reinstate a restriction on playing higher bots. I don't think you would want to discourage people from dropping back down to solidify their technique against a lower bot, particularly if they have less than a 60% score overall against that bot. On the contrary, that's exactly the case where we would want to encourage them to drop back down.

I've changed it now so that if you've won at least 2 of the last 20 games then you can go on to the next bot. Also changed it to look at only rated games. Let me know if you notice any problems when starting the bots.

Now it is not possible to play against any bot. They are telling to play with Shallowblue first. Should one has to start from the begining as the bots are reformed?.

No, you don't have to start over. Actually there was a bug in the code when I made the change. John Hoody reported the problem to me and I think it's been fixed now. If you still notice any problems, please let me know. Best way to notify me of problems is to use the form on the 'Contact' page and select 'Problems' from the list. I will see that much sooner.
