Title: Is the server really slow for you?

When I try to watch a game, it opens a window but fails to load (I've waited a few minutes).

Hmm... and it takes a minute or two to post to the forum!

Yes. Same experience trying to watch games, being told that "The system load is too high" when I try to start a game with the next bot on the ladder. I think it's been like this every time I've looked during the last twelve hours.

Sorry about the recent server instability and about having to temporarily disable the Forum.

I noticed in the server log that there was a web spider hitting the Forum pretty hard. I had recenlty disallowed spidering the forum, but either it was ignoring the robots.txt file or did not read it recently. So I decided to disable the forum temporarily. Spider seems to be gone now.

I also noticed that there seems to be a strong connection between GnoBot2006 running and the server load going up. I did some tests and confirmed it. I don't think it is directly due to GnoBot2006 though, since it used to work fine before. I think it may have started after moving to the new server and probably due to the combination of GnoBot2006 and some other application. I still have to track down exactly what it is. Until then I have disabled GnoBot2006 (all versions) and taken it off the bot ladder.

Hopefully the server will be a bit more stable now.

Surely the server load goes up when any bot runs?  Gnobot probably tries to use every available resource (CPU, memory).  If you have the source there you are welcome to reduce the size of the hash table and see if that helps.
