Title: Duplicate game
Post by Fritzlein on Aug 16th, 2005, 8:07pm
Omar, the server appears to have recorded the same game as both 18024 and 18025.  The duplicate should be removed so as not to skew the statistics, particularly since it counts for determining the defenders of the Challenge.

Thanks for pointing that out. I've deleted 18025.

Here's another pair: 79727 (http://arimaa.com/arimaa/gameroom/comments.cgi?gid=79727) and 79728 (http://arimaa.com/arimaa/gameroom/comments.cgi?gid=79728).
Please don't accidentally delete both of them, as I would like to keep the record that I successfully beat four blitz bots in a simul. :)

Congratulations, masked man.  This exploit definitely deserves a place somewhere in the botbashing Hall of Fame.

I already said that.  ;D

Thanks, I've deleted game 79728.

Thanks, Omar.  This inspired me to go clean the duplicates out of my database, which I apparently haven't done for about 50,000 games.  The redundant records I found were:

31099 = 31100
31947 = 31948
35973 = 35974
38976 = 38977
40094 = 40095
41092 = 41093
67404 = 67405
75760 = 75761
76007 = 76008
78288 = 78289
79365 = 79366

Whatever you did to fix the duplicate records these many years ago apparently still doesn't work in times of stress, as evidenced by the high density of duplicates when aaaa was playing his blitz simuls.

There actually was another anomaly during that successful blitz of mine. When I made the winning move against one of the bots (I believe it was in a different game than the one that got duplicated), it seemed it didn't get through; but when I tried to resend it, the game was no longer in session, i.e. the move did came through and had closed it.

Thanks Karl you save me some work. I was thinking of writing a script to find duplicate games. How did you find them so quickly?

I've deleted the higher numbered game in each duplicate.

I'm afraid I just created a duplicate game somehow. Game 80411 is the same as 80410 and should be deleted. Interestingly, game 80410 is shown as being played after game 80411 in the recent games list, while it appears in the correct order on OpFor's recent games list.

Thanks. I've removed it. I've put in some logging to trace what might be causing this. If anyone notices another duplicate please let me know.

Here is another duplicate entry (old game not new).

45800 and 45801

Thanks, camelback.  I was wondering how my query could have missed that duplicate you gave.  It turns out that I was requiring the ratings to be identical on the two records, which won't happen for rated games.  The ratings got adjusted between game 45800 and game 45801.

I have fixed my query and found 19 more duplicates:

37084      37085
44612      44613
46896      46897
47969      47970
57755      57756
58004      58005
59914      59915
61794      61795
62847      62848
68192      68193
68376      68377
68494      68495
68672      68673
69426      69427
69768      69769
69835      69836
72058      72059
78086      78087
78163      78164

There appears to be a new game that got recorded twice: 80941 = 80942

Aha, now we have our first chance to see if the new logging identifies the error (80941 = 80942).  Sharp eye, woh.

Thanks for reporting this woh. I've removed game 80942 and made a change to the code which I hope will prevent duplicate games. But if you see any more please report them.
