Status page looks so colorful and amazing, nice work woh!

Cross table doesn't show couple of games from round 1. I was wondering if this is the way it was designed?

Yes.

Only players active in the current round are included. The cross table is intended as a visual aid to pair the players.

Yes, it will show in the cross-table so that I don't accidentally pair you again by mistake.  :-) More tournament state information is being saved than is being displayed.  But I wouldn't mind if below the cross-table the results of all previous rounds were displayed from most recent to most distant.  Then everyone could see the whole tournament state.

Camelback, as Fritzlein already pointed out, if both you and ChrisB are active in the next round your Round 1 game will be included in the cross table.

Fritzlein, in what format would you like the results of the previous rounds to be included?
One little table for each round, just like the results of the current round or would you prefer 1 big table with 1 row per player and one column per round and with the result of that player in that round in each cell?

I guess one big table is preferable because the information is more compact that way, and there will eventually be a lot of information.  Does that make sense?

Yes I also think one big table is the best option.

So a table with the player history is added to the status page. Each cell contains the result of the game (+ for a win, - for a loss) and the id of the oponent.

To keep things colorfull, I used the background color as an indication what side the player had.

Links for the players should not be a problem but for links to the games I need game numbers. For now I can't see an easy way to get those game numbers in the tool that generates the status page.


I have couple of comments on status page:

1. In the "Games Round N" table, the columns result, reason and moves are empty most of the time. Only few of the game details are filled at a time and are short lived (around a day or so). I would say we can remove those 3 columns.

2. Instead of the above, it would be nice to have link to the game in the "Players" table. There should be a provision to enter game number once the games are completed for the week. Then the game link for each player can be generated as below

http://arimaa.com/arimaa/games/jsShowGame.cgi? <game number> &s=w

For example

1      omar      Yes      6.558      571            ? 16      + 23 (http://arimaa.com/arimaa/games/jsShowGame.cgi?gid=83876&s=w)      - 22 (http://arimaa.com/arimaa/games/jsShowGame.cgi?gid=83403&s=w)

Of course this can't be automated without having access to the guts of the server, but I will enter the game numbers by hand if woh adds this linking feature to the output.

Yes, as aaaa already mentioned, it would be nice to have links to the completed games. Since Fritzlein is willing to add the game numbers I am going to try to add the links.

Thanks to woh, we again have a new-and-improved status page.  He even went so far as to look up lots of the game numbers.  I have posted the latest version of the status page.  I'll look up the rest and get the page up to date, probably tomorrow.

I'm always happy to vote in a way that requires someone else to do work. :P  But seriously, I also would prefer to be directed to the comment page rather than directly to the game.

Thanks for the revision, woh.  I put up the new status page output.  Unfortunately the game links are now giving errors.  If you have a quick fix, I'll use it, but otherwise I'll revert to the previous version for this week.

Now that I have gotten used to your awesome status page, I'm having trouble imagining how frustrating the weekly pairing would be, and how lame the tournament would appear without it.  Thank you for your major contribution to the success of the Continuous Tournament.

Now let's hope that you won't burn the village to save it, by putting the contest on hold if there is a low participation (I read what you said in the chat room).

I believe the worst thing that could happen to anything is for it to stop functioning. People lose interest and move on and after a while forget it ever happened.

However, that's just one man's opinion.
