Title: auto-postal Post by camelback on Mar 11th, 2009, 5:10pm Does auto-postal paired anybody recently? ::) I opted for 1 game with rating difference 300 and I didn't get paired for 2 months now. I was wondering whether there are no opponents in that range or auto postal isn't working. Couple of observations on auto postal listing on "Event Games" page 1. It is not getting updated with auto postal games after aug 6. 2. Its sorted by "first game started", but I think it should be sorted by "Last game ended", otherwise "Auto postal" would be pushed to bottom. |

Title: Re: auto-postal Post by Simon on Mar 11th, 2009, 6:11pm I have also opted for 1 game with 300 rating difference, and not received any games yet. In my case it's been much less than two months since I turned auto-postal on. We are a lot further than 300 rating apart, though. |

Title: Re: auto-postal Post by omar on Mar 12th, 2009, 11:12am Actually, I've been meaning to rework that so that new players are paired up against a simple bot like ArimaaScoreP2 for their first auto-postal game. I had stopped it because it was creating a lot of postal games in which one of the human players was not making a move. Soon as I change that I'll start it up again. |

Title: Re: auto-postal Post by Simon on Mar 12th, 2009, 5:31pm Your post is not entirely clear - do you want to change it so that players first face a bot before you restart, or change it so there aren't games where players are not making a move before you restart? And can't you just restart now and get the changes ready while the system is running? |

Title: Re: auto-postal Post by omar on Mar 13th, 2009, 7:51am I have to change it so that the pairing script matches humans who have never played a postal game against a simple bot rather than against another human. Once this change is done I can start running it again. If I run it now we will get a lot of HH games where some of the humans won't make a move. The change is probably not that hard, I just haven't had a chance to look into it. But it's good that you guys asked about it; helps to raise the priority. |

Title: Re: auto-postal Post by Simon on Mar 13th, 2009, 10:10am Another solution to the problem might be to turn off auto-postal for players who time out of auto-postal games until they manually opt in again. And I'm not sure if players are allowed to time out before the first move in postal games? If not, have the game automatically be canceled after a certain time if it hasn't started yet, and turn off auto-postal for the player who failed to move. And have an email automatically sent to the player when this happens. I think this would be a more complete solution. You could implement your solution as well though, so that people who were never going to play postal games don't get to an H v H game in the first place. On the other hand, it would probably be a lot easier to just implement your solution. |

Title: Re: auto-postal Post by omar on Mar 14th, 2009, 11:59am Simon, I had already implemented your suggestion. Today I changed the pairing script to match players who have never played a postal game against ArimaaScoreP1. Also setup ArimaaScoreP1 to look for postal games. You should start getting autopostal games again. |
