I was late in a game when the page became unresponsive. Hitting reload did nothing. Neither did re-entering the game room or restarting my browser. Any ideas why?

Also, in the gameroom there was a red superscript "21" next to my name on the Live Game display. What does that mean?

The URL for the game had sid=9120519462 in it and the browser window was stuck on "Looking up r3h713378.gs1.arimaa.com..."

Any information is appreciated. Thanks.

The 21 means it was your move, at turn 21...however, it is possible that the gameroom info was out of date at that time (due to you having automatically logged out after awhile) and you were at a later point in the game.

If you were stuck on "Looking up r3h713378.gs1.arimaa.com...", that suggests that your computer was unable to look up the domain name, and thus that you probably weren't able to send the move, assuming it uses an HTTP POST or something like that to send the move (I am not sure exactly how it sends the move, however...which client are you using? I think the v1 client uses HTTP). This is probably an issue with your ISP, not the arimaa website.

I looked up your recent games; you lost only one by time recently, so is this it?

Yes, that's it. And quite a comeback on my part after losing my camel in a boneheaded move. :-)

I don't think there was a problem with my ISP. I was able to visit a variety of web sites including the Arimaa site.

Regarding the version of the Arimaa client, well whatever pops up when I play the bot ladder is what I was using. Browser client is Firefox 3.0.3.0 on Mac OS X 10.4 Tiger.

Most of the time I have zero problems with the site.

I have had many issues with the client over the years, but ever since I learned the trick of hitting F5 to reload the client, that has solved all my problems except connectivity to arimaa.com. That is to say, the only time I can't reload my client and reconnect to a game is when my connection to arimaa.com is slow or non-existent. Sorry I have no further insight than that!

You are probably using the v1 client (I think it's the default). You can check or switch using Settings -> Game Client in the gameroom. I prefer v2 myself, although it has bugs too (probably more than v1).

Unfortunately I don't know how the special subdomain works with DNS, which makes it hard for me to say what the source of the problem is.
