Title: Inviting a person to an unrated game Post by amalgam on Aug 27th, 2009, 3:11am Hi all, it seems that I cannot invite (using the 'Invite Friend' feature) a friend to an unrated game. I have unchecked the box that says 'Rated Game' , but when I observe my pending requests, it says that I have invited my friend to a rated game. Seeing as I am not very computer-literate could someone please help me to learn how to invite people to unrated games? Any help is appreciated. |

Next time you're in the game room you should ask someone to check that feature with you either by putting a request to that effect in your game invitation or by using the chat room part of the game client. |

Title: Re: Inviting a person to an unrated game Post by amalgam on Aug 27th, 2009, 7:14am I think I've fixed the problem - I needed to turn 'Unrated Mode' from Off to ON in the 'Settings' part of the game client. I guess this really shows my propensity to panic when something seems initially wrong or unsolvable. Must do as everyone tells me, and "calm down". |

Title: Re: Inviting a person to an unrated game Post by amalgam on Aug 27th, 2009, 7:23am OK, scratch my last post, it still doesn't seem to work. Unless, what if it says my request will be rated, but my opponent will see the request as unrated? Perhaps I'll just challenge ArimaaScore P1 and experiment, as I can't gain any more rating points that way, and if it still doesn't work, I get a chance to relieve some of my stress. . . |

Title: Re: Inviting a person to an unrated game Post by Fritzlein on Aug 27th, 2009, 7:54am Unrated mode allows you do sit down at a game that a bot is offering as rated, and thereby convert it to an unrated game. This feature isn't very friendly to developers, because it doesn't allow their bots to refuse to play unrated games, but it does allow humans to experiment against bots without risking rating points. For inviting people the 'Rated Game' checkbox has always worked for me in generating a rated or unrated games. Therefore, my first suspicion is that there is a bug in the pending requests listing. Perhaps you can get someone to experiment with to so see whether the game is truly unrated despite what the pending requests says, and if so, report the bug about how pending requests are displayed. |

The bots are told if the game is rated or not, which allows the bot not to send a first move, in which case the game will be deleted. Or the bot can do as some versions of clueless which start with a crapy setup. What I really mean is, if a developer doesn't want unrated games with their bot it's not hard to prevent... |

Title: Re: Inviting a person to an unrated game Post by amalgam on Aug 29th, 2009, 10:00pm Well, my game is unrated now, so I do think that there is a problem in the 'pending requests' statement box, as I tried 12 times, each time the box coming up telling me it was 'rated'. I'm just really relieved that the problem appears to be solved. |
