something more noticeable to notify you. A flashing window in the toolbar (like with ICC) would be nice. I don't want to have to constantly check the Open Games or my e-mail.

Also, I think you should be able to auto-cancel all of your other pending challenges once you start playing a game. This should be a setting you can change.

At one point I would invite others to play me by creating a game at which anybody could sit down.  However, I no longer do that because when someone else sits down at my game, I am not notified.  I would prefer to be doing something else on the computer while waiting for an opponent, rather than sitting there watching an open game window.  So now I just turn my invite flag on and wait.

A new window should open up that flashes. And your timer should automatically start, like it does on ICC. If you're not ready to start the game, then you shouldn't issue the challenges.

I am delighted that the benchmark of comparison for Arimaa.com is ICC, a for-profit company with a full-time staff and thousands of paying members.  Arimaa is aiming to be the next chess, and folks are implicitly accepting the goal as a reasonable one.  Hurray for Arimaa!  :)

I've never believed this before, here, but ... Karl is wrong; PhilomathBret is right IMHO

People?

Huh?  How can I be wrong and PhilomathBret be right if we aren't disagreeing?

SpeedRazor appears to be detecting sarcasm which may not be present.  Hooray for the interwebs!

Ah, well I was certainly pointing out that the ICC is a lofty standard of comparison for Arimaa.com, but I'm not at all disappointed that the expectations are high.  I, too, would like to see many of the features here that I got used to on ICC.  We will get there in time, I trust, because Arimaa is just that good a game.

It would be nice if the game window automatically opened up and played some sound when somebody accepts a challenge. Off hand I'm not quite sure how to implement this, but I'll think about it.

These kind of features are easier to implement when you have a persistent connection to a game server like what ICC and FICS use.

Is anyone familiar with running a chess server?

It will be a great day when the Arimaa gameroom gets something downloadable like ICC Dasher, and is similar in quality!

Building that kind of stuff is a lot of work.

It would be much easier to add Arimaa to ICC or FICS instead :-)
