Title: Arimaa Puzzles page Post by omar on Oct 2nd, 2005, 1:12pm I started a page in the Wiki to collect Arimaa puzzles. I've been meaning to do this for a while, but first wanted to setup a fairly easy way to create the puzzles. Finally created some programs to do that. Check it out and feel free to create and add your own puzzles. http://arimaa.com/arimaa/wiki/ |

Title: Re: Arimaa Puzzles page Post by Fritzlein on Oct 28th, 2005, 1:00pm These puzzles are awesome, especially the goal in two puzzles. I am so bad at goal threats I need practice exactly like this. I only wish there were a dozen such puzzles. To do my part, I just posted a "goal in three" puzzle. Actually it is one piece of a forced goal in five from the same game if you back up a move, but the larger puzzle will have to wait until there is a game viewer which can handle multiple variations. From now on I'll be on the lookout for nifty forced goals, particularly for a player who is behind material so that speed is of the essence. Even if other people just flag games in the comments as having a cool forced goal, I'll try to make puzzles out of them. |

Title: Re: Arimaa Puzzles page Post by Fritzlein on Oct 28th, 2005, 2:01pm I've added the two one-movers from 99of9's infamous swindle of Omar last October. The puzzle maker is a fun little tool, especially when you are drawing on an actual game where you can just paste in the moves. |

Title: Re: Arimaa Puzzles page Post by 99of9 on Oct 28th, 2005, 6:59pm Glad to be infamous ;-), thanks. I took my first look at the puzzles - they should be a good resource. Another common class of problems in Arimaa is "defend against a 1 move goal". Nearly every game would have a few of these! |

Title: Re: Arimaa Puzzles page Post by omar on Oct 29th, 2005, 4:34pm Nice puzzles Karl. Thanks for adding them. Maybe I'll post the 5 move goal from my postal game with Toby :-) http://arimaa.com/arimaa/gameroom/comments.cgi?gid=13600 But I need to make sure there isn't a defense first. Toby feel free to add the "defend 1 move goal" catagory. |

I agree that this would be a great class of puzzles. Sometimes when I play against bots I think over and over that there is no defense to my scoring goal in one, but the darn bots keep finding a defense until I get frustrated and capture all of their pieces. |
