Title: 1900's fluke
Post by Fritzlein on Oct 25th, 2006, 8:55pm
As I type, the "Established Players" link shows only two players with ratings in the 1900's.  This compares to nine players in the 2000's and thirteen players (excluding bots) in the 1800's.  Is this just a random fluke, or is there some deeper meaning?

It could be that unconsciously people see 2000 as some sort of stage and therefore are willing to make an additional effort when they get close to it or it could also be that it has absolutely no meaning whatsoever, after all we're not exactly dealing with the law of large numbers here.

It's true that 2000 is a big milestone.  If I remember correctly, I wanted get above 2000 a bit more than other milestones.  Of course, back then there were only three players over 2000, so it seemed like a bigger deal, but perhaps the psychological importance remains.

I can't say for sure as I have never made it to 1900 but I have been at 1800 briefly, and I think if I made it to 1900 I would want to bot bash or something to get over 2000. I already sort of noticed a desire to do so (but so far have resisted) in order to get back over 1800 but I figured that would be artificial so I want to do it the right way (or at least by out swindling people:))
if I were at 1900, resisting the urge to try for 2000 and botbashing to stay above 2000 might not be as easy to do as at 1792.  hey that rhymed :)
