Title: Postal Games
Post by woh on Oct 27th, 2006, 8:13pm
Hello

I recently discovered Arimaa and after playing against bots for a while I joined some postal games.
But I can't figure out how to answer the messages my opponents send to me during those games. I have already added text in the edit control at the bottom of the game board but that didn't work.

If anyone could explain how to do it, I would be able to reply.

Thanks in advance.

woh

Hi Herve,
you can chat in exactly the same way like in real games.
So do you see two chat boxes below the board? So the slimmer one is the "in-chat-box" and the bigger one is the "out-chat-box".
So you can write any text to the in-chat-box and it will show in the out-chat-box (like in our correspondence game: w 1w: Hi).

Thanks for your reply, arimaa_master.

I have already typed text in the in-chat-box but it never appears in out-chat-box.
Do I have to confirm or send my message in some way?

As I know all you need to do to confirm your text is pressing the "enter-key".

Yes, that was the missing 'link'.

Thank you for your help, arimaa_master.

By the way, woh, nobody is representing Belgium in the World Championships so far.  You should sign up to fly your country's flag.  Even if you don't win, it is great experience, and you get the registration fee refunded after playing.  The lowest seed gets very tough pairings, but as I look at your rating right now, you wouldn't even be the lowest seed!  You seem to be moving up the ladder rather quickly.

Yes I would like to join the World Championships.
At the moment I am checking out how I can send in the registration fee.
I hope I am still in time.

I think my ranking is too high for the moment. I have been taking few risks and only playing the next bot after beating the previous one with some confidence.

That is just the way I operate!  I don't like to take risks, and I always try to master one thing before moving on to the next.  But we are not in the majority.  I am continually amazed to see people moving up the bot ladder lose nine in a row to BobmP1, and then after winning just one time, immediately move up to the next bot.  I guess most people like to take on a new challenge.

Excellent!  I hope you can get Paypal figured out in time.  Five days should be enough to get it funded from your bank account, although arimaa_master had some trouble I don't understand.  With luck, you'll be able to join us in the tournament, and Belgium will stand tall.

It's done, I am in. With the kind assistance of Chessandgo I got my Palpal account up and running. I just hope Belgium will not be disappointed at me.

Yes I agree. I had won from Arimaazilla 3 out of 3 times I played him. So one could think it's time to move to the next bot but then I lost 4 times from Arimaazilla. Hence there is still one or two things I can learn for him. I will be playing Arimaazilla some more.

Yay!  Your registration gives us a record 17 players.  Also, with nine countries represented, it is truly a World Championship.
