Title: Re: Endgame Study 3, Three Steps is Best Post by chessandgo on Nov 25th, 2006, 2:44pm this one is tough ... given the title of the problem, I'd say silver plays e to g5 and wins, but ... as for how many moves, I have noooooo idea ... I bet 6 or 7 ;) |

Title: Re: Endgame Study 3, Three Steps is Best Post by Fritzlein on Nov 25th, 2006, 3:16pm I should be careful after missing the point of the previous study, but it seems to me that Silver has a safe and straightforward win after 1b ee4s ee3s ee2e rg7e. Gold is tied to the defense of his lone rabbit, and thus can't undertake anything. Silver's plan is to flip the Gold rabbit to the center, where it can eventually be forked between c3 and f3. If the Gold elephant moves to the center to prevent this, then the silver h-rabbit advances and decides the game. Gold's only attempt at active defense appears to be 2w Ef4e Eg4s Rg2e Rh2n, but then 2b ef2e eg2e eh2w Rh3s followed by the same plan for Silver. My solution, however, doesn't touch the theme of "Three Steps is Best", so maybe it isn't a solution, or maybe there is a faster solution with a three-step key, such as chessandgo's suggestion. |

Oops, back to the drawing board. JDB, are these positions computer-generated, or just computer-checked, or are they entirely due to your own imagination? |

Title: Re: Endgame Study 3, Three Steps is Best Post by RonWeasley on Nov 26th, 2006, 8:34am I think I see silver in 5. The first move is ee4n rg7w rf7w. This is the only move I can find where silver wins. |
