Using the tournament ruleset, who wins the following position and in how many moves?

1b dc7 rh8
2w pass

I think silver wins after moving the dog to b4. After this, the dog either gets to the rabbit faster or freezes the cat on the same side as the gold rabbit and activates the silver rabbit to win the race. Gold can delay for 6 or 7 moves.

then silver can D to e5. I'm not sure but this seems to win for silver.
My initial guess was Deee, R to b4, d to b7, but then R to a4 and Ce wins for gold.

You seem to be a great endgame player, Ron ;) Maybe we could think about some kinds of postal tournaments with only a few pieces available at setup, or fixed starting endgame position :) Then Ron would get revenge for not playing in the WC ;)

Thanx, chessandgo. It's very nice of you to forget about the ones I got wrong. On this one, I was going to reply to PMertens with db4eeee. I think the effect is about the same.

I like the shorthand PMertens invented. It sounds like parseltongue. Consider Mh7ssss ;D.

hehehe ... I'm ssssssssorry to dissssssagree withhhhhhh you, but db4eeee seems less efficient against gold pushing the rabbit on f8.

What is the right answer as to the number of moves, jdb ?

Gold's longest defence allows silver to goal on move 10b

I'd like to see that move list. Spells longer than a few steps for me usually turn into a grey paste.
