Hi I'm very new here and on the game of Arimaa in general... I found the wikibook or Arimaa Strategy and Tactics but I saw that not much space is dedicated there about the Initial Setups... I understand that its no so crucial as in Chess or similar but I wondered if anyone can give me some general tip. For instance: Elephants and Camels should never stay in the back row, but they are better upfront right? Thanks for any possible tip you are able to provide.

Is a game featuring two different opening setups. The gold one has been very popular.

The silver one is used only by Slytherins. Don't use it unless you want to be labelled as a muggle hater.

I don't believe you can blame The_Jeh's defeat on his setup, in fact I am almost certain that the outcome would have been the same had the setups been switched.

Yes and I'm not sure Ron meant to imply that. But I do think Ron is right advise new players to avoid that setup, at least for now.

There was some discussion about opening setups in a previous thread.

It would be interesting to go through the games database and collect all the different opening setups being used by human players and order them based on popularity. This would provide a good starting point so that the more popular setups could then be discussed and evaluated further. The results of these discussions could then be documented in the wikibook.
