Title: Anyone my level? Post by itaibn on Apr 1st, 2008, 4:05pm So far I played three games against humans. In all of them, I was beaten with ease. So my question: is there anybody here my level? (Not very good, but not a complete beginner either. Look at my rating). |

Title: Re: Anyone my level? Post by Fritzlein on Apr 1st, 2008, 4:22pm You may have difficulty finding an equal opponent other than a bot, not because there aren't any such people, but because they don't usually spend a lot of time in the game room. Most of us who hang out in the game room on a regular basis have played hundreds of games. My suggestion is that if you see somebody beating ArimaaScoreP2, no matter what his rating is, invite him to a game. He is probably new to Arimaa, so you have no idea if he is any good or not, but you can't afford to wait for his rating to settle down. You should take a chance that he is too good (or not good enough) and invite him right away, or else he might leave and you will never get another chance. You can watch his game against ArimaaScoreP2 while it is underway and invite him right after the game ends, before he begins another game. |

Title: Re: Anyone my level? Post by RonWeasley on Apr 2nd, 2008, 9:43am I would add that any player with a rating below 1500 has not played enough to get a rating bounce from the bot ladder. Such an opponent might be good anyway and beat you easily, but more likely would be the right level of challenge. Fritzlein's point is a good one, that a player still playing at the beginning of he bot ladder is likely to be weaker. Note that many of the current best players lost tons of games when they were first learning. That's how they became so good. chessandgo is the extreme example. |

Title: Re: Anyone my level? Post by itaibn on Apr 4th, 2008, 5:14pm I admit that I also am not a very active member of this site, and was that there was an opponent about my level who occasionally looked at the forums. Thanks for the suggestions! |

Title: Re: Anyone my level? Post by omar on Apr 6th, 2008, 2:09am If you like playing postal games, just look through the list of new players and invite them to a postal game. You don't need to wait for someone to be online to start postal games. |
