As most of you know Karl (Fritzlein) has been working diligently on his book "Beginning Arimaa" for almost two years now. I am happy to announce that he has finally released the book and it is now available to order.

I would like to personally congratulate Karl on completing this monumental task of writing his first book and on acquiring the prestigious title of "Author". I have read the book a few times already and I can definitely say it is very fun and entertaining while also being quite educational and informative. For all the effort he has put into it I can't believe he has chosen to sell it for less then $17 dollars. I even showed him that books on specialty games retail for around $30, but he insisted on keeping the price low :-) To understand why, you have to understand that for Karl writing the book was a labor of love; he wanted to give a gift to the Arimaa community; he wanted the book to help spread the word about Arimaa. This is yet another way for Karl to promote Arimaa and tell the world about his favorite game. Those of you who know Karl, know that he has always had a drive to tell the world about Arimaa; he has been doing it for years. He was the first to write a review about Arimaa on BoardGameGeek; years before anyone else. I've lost count of the number of times I've seen Karl posting on other forums and blogs where Arimaa was being discussed to shed a positive light on the game or to correct misconceptions people had about the game.

I want to publicly thank Karl for all that he has done for Arimaa and the Arimaa community. Karl, you've had a huge positive impact on Arimaa and on all of us. Thanks for all that you do.

This book is now a required text in Transfigurations. I think Professor McGonagall's tired of being asked to be one of the cats every time someone wants to play. And don't try asking any of the girls to turn into an elephant.

Thank you all for your kind words. I can only say that I have been inspired to give to the Arimaa community by how much Omar has given us all. A glance at the Internet Chess Club shows that the free unlimited gaming service is worth $59.95 a year, but instead Omar has chosen to make Arimaa into a free community AI experiment. His costs to do this are substantial; I hope he can some day at least be paid back as much as he has already laid out for his fun project.

$16.95 for a 200-page specialty book is indeed a low price, but I'm just trying to cover my costs, which I will do if we sell about a hundred. My major objective with a low price for Beginning Arimaa was to get the good news about Arimaa into as many hands as possible. Also, many of the books in my initial order are going out to game reviewers. If Arimaa gets positively reviewed, it might win an award or two, and if it wins some awards, we will see widespread interest in our little hobby. I can't wait to see fifty to a hundred people logged in to arimaa.com at any time of day or night.

Thank you Omar for a great game and a great place to play it. Thank you everyone who plays Arimaa. If you read the book, you will see how heavily I have drawn on the actual games you all have played. I couldn't have figured out Arimaa on my own: learning is a communal effort. The strategies you will find in Beginning Arimaa are merely what I have learned from you, reflected back to you.

Something truly special is going on at arimaa.com, and I am proud to be a part of it.

This is great news! I will be putting this book on my birthday wishlist for sure - I know $17 is not a lot of money, but I can't even spare a dime right now with a lot of unexpected expenses.

Just wanted to point out - there is a typo mistake on the order page - fascinating is spelled wrong (left out the c).

Anyways, good job - can't wait to get the book and own the game!

Yes, you can use payPal too. I will add a payPal button also, once I figure out how to specify the variable shipping rates to payPal. For now you can use the google checkout to figure out the total with shipping and send to my usual payPal account.

Just adding my thanks to Karl for this book. His plug of it at BGG grabbed my attention, and finally persuaded me to take a look at the site.

Currently on my second read through, understanding far more now that I have a couple dozen games under my belt . . .
