Title: multi-opponent tourney-simultaneous reg. games? Post by seanick on Jul 16th, 2006, 4:56am OK so I am back to posting chat transcripts again. :) (I was black, and Olti was white, so you can see it was partly his idea.) I removed some of the game-related comments in order to isolate the idea in question. --- b: ok, looks like you are gold in both.. ah well, next time I am gold in both. w: maybe we should try with 4 games b: nah, I think 2 losses is enough to show me that you can outplay me in multi-game play... w: we can ask to ather if they want to try b: who? w: any one b: how would it work w: just playing a lot of games at the same time w: et put the idea on the forum w: and see what the other thinks b: similar to lightning or postal tournaments, but regular speed, b: multiple players playing multiple others... ? w: yes w: but i think we should wait for the new client w: I have to go now see you later b: see ya! thanks for the games ---- I am not sure how this might work, but if you go to the US Go Congress's page, it mentions how professional players play against many opponents at the same time, and usually those opponents are only playing that one game. Similar to how in the movie "Searching for bobby fischer" they have a video clip of bobby playing chess against a long row of people, then turning around and walking back up the other row, also filled with people playing a game against him each. so imagine, now, a virtual room where each person is playing a game with each other person (maybe a max of 4 or 6 game rounds, between each, a break to let the brain cool..) If the bots were all turned off for the duration of this match (which all games would be played regular speed) would there be a reasonably small load on the server, such that it might actually work? or is this idea too crazy for consideration... |

Title: Re: multi-opponent tourney-simultaneous reg. games Post by chessandgo on Jul 16th, 2006, 10:56am yeah, it might be fun ... But I already feel lacking thinking time with only one game running, whatever the time setting I fear, so it seems to me playing one game at a time would be more profitable ... The fun of simultaneous is that they allow players to play against very strong opponent and think a lot about their own game, while the strong player isn't bored at all, busy as he is ... :) Maybe we should ask Karl to play in simul againsta bunch of players ? ::) he did it in the past it seems ...
