On September 18, 2009, Netflix announced team "BellKor's Pragmatic Chaos" as the prize winner[...]

The joint-team "BellKor's Pragmatic Chaos" consisted of two Austrian researchers from Commendo Research & Consulting GmbH, Andreas Töscher and Michael Jahrer (originally team BigChaos), two researchers from AT&T Labs, Robert Bell, and Chris Volinsky, Yehuda Koren from Yahoo! (originally team BellKor) and two researchers from Pragmatic Theory, Martin Piotte and Martin Chabbert.

Why have I added emphasis to one of the Netflix prize winners? Because yesterday this game (http://arimaa.com/arimaa/gameroom/comments.cgi?gid=122455) scrolled by in the game results. Hang on to your hats, folks!

The "name" given for bot_pragmatictheory is "Martin Piotte and Martin Chabbert" so it sounds like a team effort between the two researchers from Pragmatic Theory who were on the Netflix prize-winning team.

Wow; this is really cool. It will be interesting to see what kind of approach they take. If they win it I hope it's with a bot that was evolved or can learn on it's own :-)
