Title: Lectures at universities Post by omar on Mar 27th, 2010, 6:57am For a long time I've been wanting to more actively introduce Arimaa to academia in the hopes that it will get more participation from universities in the computer championship and challenge. I think the Arimaa computer championship would be great competition for universities to participate in similar to how they participate in the DARPA grand challenge. Of course the prize is not as high, but neither is the overhead to participate. I've been a bit reluctant to do this in the past because it takes quite a bit of effort on my part. Also it would have seemed a bit premature to do it earlier. Now that we've had 7 computer championships and 6 challenge matches and can more confidently say that Arimaa is indeed a difficult game for computers I think the time is right. Also Arimaa seems more like a legitimate game now that there are physical sets and books for it. It definitely helps with the initial impression. Next week I am giving lectures at two local universities in Dallas. If you are close enough to attend, please try to come. http://ecshonors.utdallas.edu/ http://ftp.ccccd.edu/bbenavides/ITBC/ITBC.htm If these lectures go well I would be interested to lecture at other universities. If anyone here can help with arranging other lectures, please let me know through the contact page. http://arimaa.com/arimaa/contact/ Also towards the beginning of the 2010-2011 school year I want to send out flyers to the professors who teach AI classes and let them know about the Arimaa challenge and computer championship. If anyone can help out with this, please send me a message. |
