Title: Can we play against Marwin now? Post by Arimabuff on Apr 25th, 2010, 9:56am I remember that last year there was a short period, maybe a few weeks during which it was possible to play against the bot that participated in the challenge under the same conditions as the defenders. Do you think it could be possible to do the same thing this year? I'd like an opportunity to take my revenge against Marwin. :) |

Title: Re: Can we play against Marwin now? Post by Fritzlein on Apr 25th, 2010, 10:13am I already had my chance during the screening, but as long as the server is available until the end of the month, we might as well make use of it. After that, marwin will go back to playing on one core, so it won't be quite as strong again until the 2011 Challenge. |

Really? I read the rules for making bots and I saw the requirement for an hardware-independent strength option, but not one to limit the number of cores it uses. Does omar have some utility to restrict the number of cores of any bot he runs on the servers? One way or another I'm sure you're right that marwin won't be running with as much power later on. |

If marwin doesn't have a single-threaded option, then it won't be able to run on the main server at all, due to hogging too many resources. The first priority needs to be letting anyone have an opponent if they want, even though that means the bots can't run at full strength. |

Title: Re: Can we play against Marwin now? Post by omar on Apr 25th, 2010, 8:19pm Yes, but I will set it up as marwin2010CC after my exhibition games. Usually the bots have an option to specify the number of cores they can use. If they don't and use all the cores, I probably will not be able to run them without setting a fixed search depth or nodes evaluated, since they could cause the server to overload when there are other games going on. |

Title: Re: Can we play against Marwin now? Post by rbarreira on Apr 26th, 2010, 12:02am I will keep in mind to implement a single-core option for my own bot. |

Title: Re: Can we play against Marwin now? Post by Fritzlein on Apr 28th, 2010, 5:12am Thanks, Omar. Bashing the full-strength marwin is a pleasant way to pass an evening. :) |

Title: Re: Can we play against Marwin now? Post by aaaa on Apr 30th, 2010, 1:53pm Given that both the championship as well as the screening games were so close and the fact that Clueless is parallel, would it be an idea to switch the availability on the dedicated machine between it and Marwin, say, every day for the remaining time? It would be even better of course if it were possible for a bot limit to apply to a group of bots rather than just one. That way a player would be able to choose a specific opponent. |

Title: Re: Can we play against Marwin now? Post by omar on May 3rd, 2010, 9:59am Good idea aaaa. But I won't be able to get to this anytime soon. I have to focus on transferring the server now. |
