Title: bot lost on time on move 3. Post by speek on Aug 18th, 2010, 10:36pm bot_Clueless2006CC just lost to me on time on move 3. Is there a problem? |

Title: Re: bot lost on time on move 3. Post by omar on Aug 19th, 2010, 5:32pm I looked into this and it seems to have crashed due to running out of memory. Exception in thread "Thread-0" java.lang.OutOfMemoryError: GC overhead limit exceeded I tried playing it and got the same result. I'll have to see what might be causing this. In the meantime I'm going to disable it. |

Title: Re: bot lost on time on move 3. Post by speek on Aug 19th, 2010, 7:41pm Thanks. And for my own info, how much memory do you let the java bots take? |

Title: Re: bot lost on time on move 3. Post by omar on Aug 20th, 2010, 2:06am It is set to use a maximum of 500MB and use to work fine on the old server. Not sure why it's not working now. |

Title: Re: bot lost on time on move 3. Post by rbarreira on Aug 20th, 2010, 2:29am The 64-bit Java VM probably uses more memory, since pointers are double the size on a 64-bit OS. If clueless uses a lot of references (i.e. pointers) that could make a big difference. The server migration wouldn't affect non-VM bots since those are statically compiled, but for Java the 64-bit OS makes a difference. |

Title: Re: bot lost on time on move 3. Post by omar on Aug 20th, 2010, 8:22am Good point. I think that might be it. If I increase the max memory Java can use, it might work then; but it would risk causing the server to hang. |

Title: Re: bot lost on time on move 3. Post by speek on Aug 20th, 2010, 8:38am Oof, only 500MB! Heh, I'll have to cut back on my memory usage :-) |

I believe you can use as much as you want in the computer championship, limited only by the hardware's specs... Of course, it's nice to have an option to decrease memory usage, if possible. Then omar can set up your bot for public play after the CC. |
