Title: Silver elephant directly opposite Gold elephant Post by Belteshazzar on Jan 31st, 2015, 6:33am I've noticed that expert Silver players now often start with their elephant directly opposite Gold's, which used to be cautioned against. I did a quick search and couldn't find any discussion of this, although it's probably here somewhere. I assume that if Gold takes four steps forward, Silver now has an effective way to counter without wasting steps? |

Title: Re: Silver elephant directly opposite Gold elephan Post by chessandgo on Feb 1st, 2015, 3:38am Yeah, that's browni's setup. Silver would move his elephant through the c6 trap on the following move (asssuming Ed2 / ed7 etups). Gold's Elephant would likely be forced to move back to the 5th row within a few moves, so it seems that Gold would lose more time (or at least as much) in the process. |

Title: Re: Silver elephant directly opposite Gold elephan Post by novacat on Feb 1st, 2015, 5:59am Note that browni uses it in conjunction with the unbalanced setup for an emh attack, where the temporary absence of the gold E allows the silver m and h to get into a good position. It doesn't make much sense in a regular 99of9 setup. |
