I was shocked that leaving our dog on f4 was such a popular idea.  I don't understand what the follow-up is supposed to be Huh  Push the horse to d5 with our elephant?  It's a tactical minefield but I don't know what the alternative is.  Our horse could push its way to g5 so the dog can retreat to f4.  But then I'd wonder why we used our entire 29g to save the dog when we could have easily placed it on f3 with our final 28g step.   Also, the silver horse could then reach g4 on 29s which I think is very dangerous because of the latent threats from the eastern rabbits.

My first instinct is to push the horse to d5, but we'd have to carefully weigh the risks that we'd incur.  Specifically the threats against our c3 trap.

I think we'll need a stronger plan to save our dog and prevent a strong counter-attack from Fritzlein.

Using the g3 horse to free the dog invites the h-file rabbit to go to g2.  That's bad with a silver elephant on d3.  Somebody double check that we don't have a tactical rescue for this.

So if we don't like that, the ONLY move that saves our dog is

29g Ec4e Ed4e he5w Ee4n

After this we can consider creating a hole through f6 for our f rabbit and goal racing.

Wow, that's a strange move indeed. I had not voted since I understood nothing about the discussion; I wish I had now.

I'm almost more worried about the Cb3w step instead of Cb3w (leaving c2 open to the db4) than about leaving the D on f4. Using the Horse to move our Dog to g5 indeed looks terrible after r->g2, where we have 2 or 3 threats to defend against.

Actually having the E on c4 rather than c5 is maybe good with respect to this D->f5 move of silver. I think we're still doing ok after:

29g Ec4e Ed4e he5w Ee4n
29s re7e rh6w db4e rb8e
30g de6w Ee5n Rf2n Rf3n
30s dc4s Cc2s dc3s ra4e
31g Df5n rf7e Df6n Rf4n

or

29g Ec4e Ed4e he5w Ee4n
29s re7e ed3n ed4e ee4e
30g rg5n Df5e hd5s Ee5w

(29s db4e dc4s Cc2w dc3s does not seem to wrok either)

Unless someone sees a plausible alternative to 29g Ec4e Ed4e he5w Ee4n, I'd suggest that we move quickly to rebuild a timebank that we'll need for the endgame.

I agree with the quick vote for 29g Ec4e Ed4e he5w Ee4n.

+1

We need one more for our magic quorum of 6 and I'll make the move.  If you have an objection, make it quick.

Actually there is another alternative: using the f2 rabbit to save the dog.
But that is not really a solution, so I would be glad to give another +1 to the quoted move.

True.  I looked at using the f2 rabbit and verified it leads to loss of at least a rabbit.

So I made the move.  If we win, we can call 28g a positional sacrifice.
