2015 Move 4s

Anyone want to speculate on silver's next move (and potential replies to it)?

I predict that silver will leave its horse on b6 for as long as possible, to avoid ceding b6 to our gold horse.  (This also means that we would have to set up for pull-and-replace if we want to pursue this line.)  Therefore I expect a move like b8s and three steps to develop in the east.  This all assumes, of course, that silver doesn't decide it can win a capture race in the west.

One interesting move, however, is Md3e ed4s dd7sw.  Without a horse at c3, silver could position a dog to come contest the trap, an E+D attack.  If we rotate the camel back to c4 in response, the dog is no worse off than a horse would be against the caMel.  If we don't use the camel, we are poorly positioned to bring a dog to b3, so the other option would be to return the a6 horse to the c3 area.  Who loses more steps in this case, with us switching to defense and giving up attacking c6?

So far, though, all the responses to caMel -> c4 after that move appear favorable to us, so I don't think the other line above is too worrisome.

At first, your idea of silver attacking with its dog in the west seemed intriguing to me, but upon further analysis on your suggested Me3nw Ee5w Md4w response, I think we are better in this line mainly because of the fact that if simultaneous emh attacks happen in opposite wings, then the dog on c6 would be a liability rather than a defensive force. A sample line demonstrating this point would be:

4s Md3e ed4s dd7s dd6w
5g Me3n Me4w Ee5w Md4w
5s hh6s hh5s hh4s ed3e
6g Mc4w Mb4n Ed5n Rg1n
6s mg6s mg5s mg4w Hg3n
7g Mb5e hb6s Ha6e Rg2n

It seems to me 5s mss hhss is faster option for silver.

(And I don't like ra7, rb7 formation at all (as silver).)

ed3e on 5s is not reasonable, it does not help directly with attacking f3, and the elephant would be better used in the west with the Gold caMel advanced. I prefer Hippo's move, maybe with ed3n. Also, not threatening capture on c6 can be a problem (with the ed3n step), so silver might just place his dog on d6 on 4s, and aim for c4 later (4s Md3e ed4s dd7s hh6s?).

I like the idea of attacking c3 with a dog in general though, that's part of what I meant about having the Horse on b5 instead of a6. We would remain stronger around c3, with fewer steps lost if we ever need to come back and defend.
