Title: Proper designation of AWL games
Post by Fritzlein on Dec 17th, 2011, 9:18am
Megajester, you are doing a great job, and I hate to make any more work for you, but there is one detail that a different thread brought to my attention:

World League and Auto Postal games are included in the WHRE calculation. All rated games on the Event games page (http://arimaa.com/arimaa/gameroom/eventgames.cgi) are counted.

Because Omar has elevated the importance of WHRE ratings (they now determine the seeding of the World Championship), it is important for AWL games to be correctly recorded as such in the database.  In particular, when a game is rescheduled by the players, the original should not count for WHRE and the replacement should.  A quick visit to the Event Games link woh provided shows that this hasn't been happening.  Sadly, this bookkeeping must be done manually by the tournament director, and perhaps even done before the round is marked done in the tournament tool, so it might not even be possible to correct this for past games.  Thus this note is basically about the future running of AWL.

*Sighs* Yeah that came to my mind as well.

Why can't I just log in somewhere and just enter in a different game number?

The other option would be to set up something whereby players can reschedule their own game on the system by mutual agreement.

As TD, you can log in and enter a different game number.  It is part of the TD tool, at least as far as I remember.  But maybe only for the current round and not for prior rounds.

I'll bet if you have all the game numbers to add/remove as official games, (and you seemed to be putting them on the Web page, so they are in your spreadsheet, right?) Omar would be willing to do it for you with SQL commands.  There's an extra two weeks after AWL ends and the World Championship begins to get it sorted out.

Thanks for fixing this, woh.  Compared to the previous ranking, Tuks eked past Nombril thanks to an autopostal win, and ocmiente leapfrogged woh and Simon thanks to his recent AWL victory over Hirocon and previously uncounted AWL victory over Simon.  Froody jumped way up the rankings, but not enough to overtake Harren for the bottom seed.

Clearly there could be more changes to the rankings before the World Championship seeds are finalized.

One more on the tie breaker round this weekend, game 206210 should be an event game.

Thanks Nombril

That game is included in today's WHRE.

I had already changed it on the system so it shows as a R13 game. Shame I hadn't realised I could do that earlier...

That is the replaced game. You must mean 198607 (http://arimaa.com/arimaa/gameroom/comments.cgi?gid=198607).

Also, the infamous Nombril-722caasi game (http://arimaa.com/arimaa/gameroom/comments.cgi?gid=147055) has now been unrated. You should recalculate the ratings based on that as well.

198607 should be rated game.
198649 should be not rated.

Yes, I meant 198607. Thanks for spotting this.

Next WHRE will include this change.
